Nice presentation, Mike. I have pretty much been following a similar workflow but this added some great insights that both confirm what I've been doing and also adding in lots of information which I hadn't come across until now. I pretty much use Cubase exclusively and this all translates perfectly to that workflow. One observation is that the Drums window is Drummer perspective which makes it more intuitive to use during the instrument selection phase of the setup if the mix is being handled the same way.

Very Cool Video Mike! I look forward to Part 2! I am so happy you released this video. I started doing this technique of routing all the mics out to their own outputs into my DAW so I could have more control over the sound via my Waves plugins. So far, the results have been outstanding. I look forward to seeing your next steps and picking up some useful tips in the next vid! Would you use things like parallel compression or 3rd party reverb on some of the drums? Really curious to your approach. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for commenting. Yes, I'm probably using parallel processing (not only on the drums) and maybe some reverb.

Mike Ochs Search „Telefunken Live from the Lab“ on KZbin. Telefunken is a manufacturer of microphones and the regularly host bands to record in their premises and with each video you get access to the multitrack recording of that particular songs. Two more advantages: You see HOW they play it and the recordings sound very good due to the high quality mics they used.
@mochs38694 жыл бұрын
@@MikeLuke I subscribed to the Telefunken site and have previewed some tracks...they sound so good already I wonder if these are straight off the mic sounds or if they've already been processed...nothing left to really do with them but balance the tracks. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for video! I'm a newbie and have created my first drum parts in mixer, now I'll i want is to bounce a STEREO MIX. I'm not using my DAW just want the stereo mix from superior 3 that I've made, help please !! Thanx

Hi Mike, is there a way to bounce the audio using the blend knob in tracker to get a mix of the audio drum with the midi drums? Regards,
@MikeLuke4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie, that’s a good question. But honestly, I don’t think it’s possible. Because when bouncing SD3 just „listens“ to the actual samples or kit you picked.

Hi Mike. Just wondering how did you get mono mic for snare bottom? I've tried to find it out all over internet with no success. Could you please share the tip? Thank you and best regards
@MikeLuke3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcin, the snare bottom mic in SD3 is stereo actually because they recorded it with two mics. Just use the panning knob in the SD3 mixer and bring it to the centre, this way it will create a mono signal. Hope it helps!
@mattfly683 жыл бұрын
@@MikeLuke Thank you for the reply. The view of your SD mixer just confused me so I wondered why is that. However I've noticed that we can find the real mono channel for snare bottom in some other sound libraries so why TT have chosen stereo? Best regards and thank you for the best SD tutorial👌
@MikeLuke3 жыл бұрын
Well, it wasn’t Toontrack‘s decision in this case but the decision of the responsible recording engineer George Massenburg. There are benefits of having the snare bottom in stereo, even though it might be unusual.

Hey Mike, as a new producer learning during Covid how to put together pieces without a live drummer, these videos are gold, thanks for them. I have a question, though. I see you have EZDrummer in your Dock, is there a reason you use it as a separate application in addition to Superior Drummer?
@MikeLuke4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, thanks for watching. Well, basically two reasons: 1. When I just want to work briefly on a song idea by creating a MIDI loop, I usually open EZDrummer as it‘s lighter in CPU and faster. 2. I often make reviews about EZX expansions for EZDrummer2, so it‘s better to showcase them in that way.

I enjoy your videos, my questions is: Is it worth it, advantageous to click the function that allows SD3 to open a track for each part of the drumkit? I think it asks if you want this when you first add the SD3 vst to a track. What I don't like about it,is that it looks awkward when you have like idk 17 tracks there. Or maybe this should be used later for mix/mastering after all like you said it's better to start mixing from the SD3,if I understood correctly. Thanks, Rob

@@deathrules001 thats a good question, i have to try out a lot now to find the best workflow for me. @Mike Luke your Video help me a lot !!
@MikeLuke4 жыл бұрын
deathrules001 It depends. Sometimes I use the bleeding, sometimes not. I once made a video about that topic as well. If you have a singer-songwriter track, enabling all the bleeding can add a certain „glue“ to the sound because this matches the song of live recorded acoustic drums. So if I use it, I do it on purpose and to have that effect. But keep in mind that mixing will get a bit more complicated then. Engineers usually try to reduce mic bleeding for good reasons ;)
@darkonestudio98974 жыл бұрын
@@MikeLuke Hi Mike, i found out that some Cymbal has a direct Mic Out and some don´t have it. I help me with this workflow, that i stay the mic in OV and then only use the Bleeding for this Extra CYMB Channel to get this as a direct Mic Out. This work well. so i stay all Cymb in the OV Stereo Mic but have also controll about my 4 Cymb (cause my TD 50 only have 4 Cymb) in the mix :)
