I would have received commo later on that night detailing everything that happened in that battle.

Trying to confirm location of this battle. I don't know the Map grid system. Grid referenced was YU 4304. Crew briefing indicates runway at Duc Pho which is near the Sea, but later reference is made to Duc Phuong which close to Cambodian border. Escape and evasion brief references Bien Hoa and Song Be. Any chance you can clarify for me? This has been bugging me for 20 years. TIA

Is this real?

As far as I am aware....It sounds far too complex and realistic to me to be "made up" ....As mentioned my main interest is in actual radio recordings of pop radio stations from the 60s and 70s and somehow this cassette was included in a trade many years ago.

@@mikeluxy Yes it is. I flew on Shadow as a gunner until Dec 69 until DEROS in Dec. Matter of fact, before I left one of our guys came by our hooch with a stack of mission cassette tapes that were destined to be erased and reused. Our Nav recorded missions on a Sony portable tape player. This was the exact mission tape that I grabbed and copied to 1/4 mag tape. I still have the original tape I made. I returned the tape to the guy. I connected with my best buddy in Tachikawa and played the tape in his barracks. I think (IIRC) one of the guys in the hooch copied it before I left. BTW, mission date was Sep 6/7 1969. Last few minutes had radio traffic from Shadow 61, which was our early mission. My tape has deteriorated after 55 years. This is so clear it is close to original clarity. Occasionally I can hear someone in the background talking, I'd guess maybe someone copied via microphone near speakers. I flew 150 missions and this exactly what our intercom sounded like on most missions. Amazing that back then we developed the ability to filter intercom traffic of 11 channels well enough to pick out aircraft commander instructions to the us on the gun bay. Thrilled to hear this again with such clarity.
