So Mike, you have the north farm that is getting bigger and bigger, and the west farm now. I know you've said you are not leaving the south farm cause that is home-base, but we almost never see you doing anything at the south farm anymore. Would you be willing to talk about your total situation, between the 3 farms and the costs involved with spreading out over that distance? that would be interesting to learn. thanks!

We usually just set the truck brakes and leave the trailer brakes off. By the time the truck air leaks off and the trailer brakes come on, the pads are already froze up and are too cold to freeze to the drum.

There’s 2 kinds of people-those who can barely drag themselves across the 5:00 finish line and then think they’ve put in a long day. Then there’s the other kind, who at 11:00pm are still hoping to get a start on the next day by getting their trucks loaded. I’ve been both of those guys.

Good to hear from ya Mike, I’d be curious as to how well a snowblower would work for the north farm? Might help out with getting the snow out as much as possible not to mention when it gets blown and lands it packs down quite a lot and might help to prevent as much snow drift. Cheers from Alberta

Mike over here in the UK we have a blue button on the trailers used for shunting so when you push it in it releases the brakes on the trailers and they won’t come back on until you pull the button out again regardless of air pressure
@taylorjennings22189 сағат бұрын
@@TheSwampdoggydog huh never heard of that, but I need it! How does it work?
@TheSwampdoggydog42 минут бұрын
@ when the trailer has enough air in the tanks to begin with it has 2 push buttons on the chassis similar to the ones you use in America for your park brake on the dash. So for example you need to move a trailer from one space to another in a yard once you connect the truck to the trailer hop out do not connect the air pipes to the trailer just push the blue button and the brakes release until you pull it out again even if the trailer then looses all air pressure. You also do not have any brakes on the trailer also naturally as no hoses connected. The second button is the hand brake just push it in ( when the blue is pulled out) and the trailer brakes are set until you pull it out regardless of the air lines from the truck. The amount of times that I have connected to a trailer and put all the hoses on wound up the legs jumped in the truck released the brakes and tried to move just to discover the last person applied the park brake and I had to jump out and release the brakes lol.

Just a thought that might work. A Milwaukee battery powered air compressor hooked up to trucks air tanks. I think it would cycle on and off automatically when air pressure got low and would keep your emergency brakes from setting. Would probably help add a few more days of sit time or maybe a week or longer.

Is it more efficent to use the leased tractors for the augers instead of dedicated Motors?
Many leases have hours restrictions, limits & extra costs. Similar to a car lease, you get say 60k over 3 yrs & if you exceed that you incur extra costs for each additional mile. Sorry if I'm 'preaching to the choir' but not everyone is knowledgeable of these things. 😀

So what are the rules about Sleep/Rest and driving a Semi in Canada?
@mikemitchell255410 сағат бұрын
13hrs driving per day... Rule of thumb is, and you can ask any of my guys, I tell them "if you're tired pull over and nap/sleep period". Whether combine, tractor or semi. I don't believe in regulating (x) hours on or off and thankfully I am exempt from that. We have learnt from the education system that everyone learns and is wired differently. So by heavy regulation doesn't at all mean safer drivers, just obligates drivers to drive when thier "rest time" is officially ended. That's why, drive when you're not tired and not when you are. 🙂
