Great video, thank you, I will try to fix my FT3 with dead meter. One thing: the cover plate for the battery compartment on the Nikkormat is backwards "threaded"--the "O" next to the clockwise arrow means "Open". Clockwise to open, counter clockwise to close. At least that is how the battery cover works on my FT3. Consistent I guess with how the Nikon lenses also lock on by turning counter clockwise. I'm not sure how you were getting the battery cap to stay on by turning it clockwise, possibly it was not always seating properly for you causing some problem. In any case thank you again for your helpful and thorough videos!

Nice job bringing the old girl back to life! What about using the liquid contact cleaners like Deoxit? I saw this recommended in some forums - Amazon has it. Maybe that would help increase the contact in the battery compartment?

Ken, I have that exact camera and I don't have your skills. Question ... Can I just use the camera without the light meter. In other words, can I just use the camera in full manual mode and use a hand held light meter instead? Thanks for your reply. Bill
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can Bill. I have the FTN with a non working light meter and it works great if I use a hand held light meter, or just the sunny 16 rule.
@TuanBasikal2 жыл бұрын
The camera is full manual already. The built-in light meter only shows you how to set the manual settings. Nothing sets itself. The point of a Through the Lens (TTL) meter was it read the light that actually came through the lens. But expert photographers always used the meter readings as a suggestion and changed settings based on experience. Plus bracketing, where you take additional pictures at a setting higher and lower than the meter indicates, just to make sure.

do you recommend trying the "overvoltage trick" before trying to open it up? i have a mamiya cwp with a dead light meter.
@mikeno625 жыл бұрын
Well, I would not try the "overvoltage trick" simply because, if the meter is still working but not as if it was new, you could probably damage the meter if the voltage is a little higher than normal. It's just a guess.. I would use a little lower voltage just to see if there is any movement, and in that way say that the meter is still alive in some way.

Do you or could you make a video on repairing a inoperative Nikon Photomic FTN Prism Finder?

Can you please show how to disassemble the front parts of camera i.e., aperture ring and shutter speed ring? A shutter ring of my Nikkormat FT2 suddenly gets stuck. I had removed the aperture ring, but could not do any further. Also, I found a piece (clip) came off, and I did not find where I could put it back. If you can help, I really appreciate.

My Nikon FM2 has a photodiode, with three LED Lights internal to the view finder, +0-. Only the - LED will light up, no matter the lighting situation. Do you have any ideas as to what could be the problem? Thanks
