Thanks for adding the playlist of grinding your own woodturning tools. These videos really help to take out the nervousness of how easy this really is. Something I'll need to revisit down the line

Made mine from an old flat blade screwdriver, works great. Thanks for the idea.

Thinks for the video. I think i will be turning a spindle gouge i don't use into a ring tool today. Always fun making your own tools.

I wish some of the more disgruntled woodworker 'makers' out there could be as happy and cheerful as you are. Passion without huge dollar sign expectations.

Thanks Mike, this was a very useful video for me to watch, but then again, most if not all of your videos are. Thanks for taking the time, to record, edit, and post them, I greatly appreciate you sharing the great amount of turning knowledge you have.

Great tool Mike! And great video! Max information in minimum time. I'm making two of these tools today, I'm making mine from a piece of leaf spring so they lay flat on the tool rest. Thanks!😁👷

Nothing like using something and refurbishing it to use as something else. Really nice job. I enjoy the way take your time and explain things to us so a simple minded old woman like me can understand. Great video and what a nice project for a new life as in a baby being able to use your rattle that you used something you repurposed to make. Awesome.

This is perfect timing. My brother and his wife just had a baby and I was wanting to make a rattle for him but don't have the money to buy the tool right now. I may be able to do this though. Thank you for sharing your skills with us.

This looks like it would work better than the one I bought for good money a couple years ago.....Tool Acquisition Disorder (TAD as it's better know by) leads to these types of regrets! Lol Next tool I run out of flute with, I'm gonna make it into one of your style ring tools, thanks for the info Mike!

Mike, I may have to make one of these. I usually turn captive rings with only a small skew but often the undercut ends up just a bit pointy. It requires some extra sanding to get everything round. Thanks for sharing.
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 жыл бұрын
Sanding the underside is tough. Been there, done that.

Thank you very much for this video. I was almost going to go purchase tools for this. Now I have something to use all my left over steel rods on and save a ton of money!!

Yes, I need one but don't have a profile wheel. Have to figure out something else. Alan
@lenmullin32166 жыл бұрын
Alan, you could use a regular grinder for most of the shaping of the tool, then use a dremel type tool to complete shaping it.
@MikePeaceWoodturning6 жыл бұрын
You can do a lot of the shaping the inside with the corner of the wheel and as Len suggests, finish with a Dremel with a stone.

Making a tool from hex keys. Where can I buy ferrules for the handle?
@MikePeaceWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
Watch this video on ferrules kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4CpnWyketiJn6M Go to my channel home page and use the search bar for searching a topic just within my videos and not the entire internet. Sometimes one word will get you to what you are looking for.

It seemed to catch a bit, but I'm guessing that's because you were not taking as much time as you usually do. Nice tool, going to make mine from spring steel!

Captive ring tools are scrapers working in a confined space and can get grabby.
