Like many performers (David Bowie, Robbie Williams, Sacha Baron Cohen, Andy Kaufman, etc.), Howard Stern has a performance persona, who is different from how he is when he is being himself. With Howard Stern, the persona doesn't come with a different name, costume, voice, or any other clear indicators, and so it is harder to tell them apart. His persona is quite a douche, because that is actually what worked for him in creating his success, and so he just stuck to his shtick.

I love Suzanne Vega and this was very hard to watch. I don't think she had to go on his show because she was pretty well known by that point but it might have been something she felt like she had to do. It's really unfortunate if she forced herself to do it. But I'm happy to see she never changed herself just to satisfy that kind of criticism. And didn't let it destroy her.

Jeepers......Ms. Vega is the absolute salt of the earth. Truly a brilliant light, and as demonstrated here.....massively patient and diplomatic. Howard Stern...(however).....truly a "Trumpian" deja-vu.....on steroids. If that's even possible. Suzanne Vega should be presented with some highly place award for humanity, simply for surviving with grace. Mr.Stern should be sent to a "re-education" camp somewhere in Outer Mongolia to herd Yaks part time, while undergoing lessons in human empathy, manner correction, and ego adjustment. For twelve years.

Like many here, I don't really like Howard Stern, but the whole thing is a joke and Suzanne's clearly in on it. She certainly would have known what she was getting into by coming on Stern's show (he was already notorious by 1993) - and she more than holds her own against his 'banter'.
@FungusMossGnosis5 жыл бұрын
This should be the top comment. Stern is an arrogant asshole, that's his shtick. And Suzanne was fully aware of the game, played it admirably. For goodness sake, he even asked for consent moment by moment, and all the white knight dorks in the comments are saying this was a MeToo moment! Eastwood's right, most of America has be pussified to the point of absurdity.
