I recorded three tracks on MTR and sent them to my computer, where I renamed them Voice, Harmony and Bass. The renaming was done on the computer, while the Zoom and PC were connected. When I returned to my MTR recording session everything had vanished. The tracks were visible on the Zoom under their new name, performed on the computer, but there was nothing in the MTR. The files are on the Zoom and are not empty names, because on consulting each file, the information can be given. However, I have not mnaged to put back the tracks on the tracks from which they came in the MTR mode. In fact, I cannot play them into the headphones plugged into the Zoom. I have decided that the tracks are lost on the Zoom, on which fortunately I was using the metronome and the right tempo and bpm. I wonder where the files are on the Zoom. Copies are on Audacity on the PC but I have to start over again to put on harmony, bass, second guitar and pedal steel in synch in MTR mode. Since the Zoom is also a USB key, I ought to be able to "send" my tracks back to the Zooom on their respective files, but I have not managed so far.

Hi Mike - not sure if you check these comments particularly on your older videos but I have found them really helpful. I recently encountered a problem and hope you may be able to help: Question relating to recording podcasts using Zoom H4N Pro. I recently recorded a podcast using 2 x XLR mics and the built in mic in 4Channel mode. The recording seemed to be fine - levels good, timecode progressing normally - but half way through recording stopped due to full (32 gig) soundcard which I had cleared before the recording to maximise space. I wasn't surprised as I had read that 4 channel recording does use a lot of memory and I had a spare card to switch to, but I was surprised and alarmed to find the original card had wiped clean when I tried to download the files from it. There were wav files in the 4channel folder - but none contained any data whatsoever as if the fact of filling the card had caused it to auto-delete. Using Disk Drill enabled me to recover several older recordings but the new ones could not be recovered. Any advice would be much appreciated. Adam

I did a LOT of research on a really EASY and quality multi track recorder and ALL the reviews of this were almost 5 star amazing reviews. Very HAPPY people!! So I ordered it. I'm OLD SCHOOL, but trying to find such super EASY machines now days is almost impossible ( turn on machine, select and adjust track, record and playback. DONE! I Adjusting each track and mixing to final is just that. Ready to burn.) My old favorite model is still out there but only used and who knows how badly they were used and how much more before it would die completely, leaving me looking again. So reluctantly, I'm trying to find a new machine. I tried the TASCAM OO6 and after calling the tech and writing down 28 STEPS just to record track 1, the playback stunk and I was about to toss it out in the trash!! I'm sorry, but THAT IS NOT USER FRIENDLY!! Understand, I'm using g the SAME INSTRUMENTS AND VOCALS as before on the old Sony MDR with great results that absolutely was trash on the Tascam. Really?? This Zoom is highly recommended and I've followed up on its user friendliness and decided to finally order it. It should be here in 7 days. But meanwhile I plan to get as much info on using it as I can so when it arrives, I'll be ready to go to work. Question is, can I hook it up to any CD BURNER or is there a specific brand I should use? I did use the burner on my old computer but that has since died as well. So I'm looking for a new burner, too. Thanks for your video!!

I got my vocals track back, after closely examining a video on transferring a track from "stereo" to MTR. The functions to use are file, move and project, not forgetting the function "link". I applied the logic (?) in this tutorial to the idea of moving a file from its MTR project to another MTR project created. Let me see whether I can find the video for you.

Quick Question. Regarding the 1/2 link question. Yesterday I connected ONE MICROPHONE and then chose #1. However. After hearing the sound on my headphones. The sound was much higher on my left speaker than my right speaker. What did I do wrong? Should I have LINKED and put the setting to on? Or should I have adjusted the recording level for both?

I've been watching several tutorials on the use of the H4n Pro. None of them show how to position the recorder, using the built in mics, to record, for instance, me reading some text. Is it best to have the built in mics pointed towards you, (then you can't see the digital screen to monitor what is going on,) or can you just position it in front of you so you can see/monitor the screen information while recording? Also, how far away from the subject being recorded should the mics be? BTW, I got a gorilla tripod, so I can position it any orientation as needed. Thanks for your help. :)

I found out that you CAN use an external lav mic that has a 3.5mm TRRS plug (3 bars), as long as it has its own battery power. For some reason the H4n Pro's Plugin Power feature doesn't work with it, but if the lav mic has its own battery power, switching it on will allow it to work on the external mic connection without the need for an adaptor.

One flaw in this field recorder that I own. You can't rename folders. And you only get 10 pre made folders. Also as a device overall it's a lot of buttons to press and menus to navigate to do simple things. Not a fan. A couple of simple software changes could make it a winner.
