My father-in-law has another box in storage (or maybe more than one...he is not sure), so you can certainly count on seeing another one of these in the coming months!

I have that exact same edition of "The Dark is Rising". Classic YA fantasy. "The Mote in God's Eye" is a great first contact SF story.

A Canticle for Leibowitz has had something of a resurgence in popularity recently, it’s on my TBR but definitely one you should check out too!
@miketravelsnowhere655720 күн бұрын
Yeah, the title was kinda ringing a bell when I first saw it. Then after looking it up and seeing that it won the Hugo Award, I guess that makes sense for why it is becoming popular again

I read the Zanth Books growing up. I looks like your father in law had both his Incarnations of Immortality and Xanth series. The Incarnations starts with "On a Pale Horse" and the series follows death as he reaps peoples souls. It's really good. The Xanth series has almost fifty books and are still being released today. The books in the Xanth series do not follow a story line. The series is the purest of the pure pulp fantasy the books range in length but are mostly fun and punchy reads. The series covers a range of tones and age groups which is why some of the books look like childrens books. The series jumps between characters effortlessly. It almost never has reoccurring main characters and you can read the books in almost any order it's a really good pallet cleanser type read. But if you want to read Xanth I would recommend reading the first four books and then go from there. The first book called "A Spell for Chameleon".

Is that box double what the others were? Wow! 😮❤ Also: Piers Anthony has easily a hundred or so books, friend. He's a good writer. On a Pale Horse is book one of a weird but fun series. He has a page on fantastic fiction that has his books in order, so does Fred Saberhagen! Happy reading.

Wow he is definitely a proficient writer then! Thanks for sharing!

Heinlein is a legend in sci-fi...Starship Troopers! Niven as well...Ringworld! Black Beauty is a classic; I read it for an English class in school.

Oh, I love Starship Troopers. Haven't read that book since high school, but I remember I really enjoyed it. And the movie is pretty great too!

@ Heinlein has more than a few titles that are sci-fi classics: Stranger In a Strange Land, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, Time Enough For Love...def recommend!

Quag Keep is actually the first book based on the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game, so that's a bit of history there. However, I have never read it, so I don't know if it's any good, but Andre Norton is a classic (if prolific) fantasy author, so I doubt it's terrible. A Canticle for Leibowitz is a classic post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel that takes place at a Catholic monastery and explores mankind's relationship with knowledge. I have read that one and it's great (if rather depressing). Definitely a fun collection of books to collect! Sounds like they'd be fun to read.

The Dark is Rising Sequence was the first book series that I loved. Read The Dark is Rising for my 6th grade english class. Was the first english book I enjoyed besides the Hobbit. Fun Fact: Susan Cooper of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.
