I'm retired, live in an apartment, I grow 6 trays of micro greens daily for continuous harvest. I eat a microgreen salad daily and dehydrate the rest for my son and daughters smoothies. You are right, it's not for everyone. I'm 72 with health issues and I actually like microgreens. This is working for me.

I like microgreens but I am not receiving a paycheck right now and growing things bigger is more fillng. When it was for health, I liked the microgreens because sprouts and microgreens have more nutrition.

I think micro greens are great! You can throw them on sandwiches, salads, in casseroles, omelets, in stir fry. They are the perfect fast food.

Growing baby greens is great, too! I hated kale until I tried it as baby greens. I don’t believe in a food that takes 45 minutes to chew. Baby Kale is different, better tasting, easier to chew.

I love and use your downspout system to grow all my salad greens. But to save on seed costs, and for timing the crop, I start seedlings individually in oasis grow cubes. A small frozen food tray with the great self watering paper towel trick you taught us will start up to 18 seedlings. These are easy to lift off the paper towel without damaging the roots. I wrap the cube in a piece of pool noodle like you taught us. But then I put the pool noodle seedling in a Dixie cup with the lower half cut off, so the noodle hangs in the top half of the cup and the cube and roots touch the water below. Just cut 6 holes in a freezer tub's lid to hang the cups in and you've got a 6 pack of seedlings that can begin growing but save space. Then when they get a bit larger, just transfer the cups to the rain gutter you made. Really great for easy, selective transplanting without ever disturbing the roots. I took some pics to share but I don't have your email. Is there a way to send them in? I think folks might find it helpful. Thanks for turning us on to such a great way to grow greens!

I'm confused by this but it sounds like it would be a good method to use, I wish I could understand better. What is the "cube" you are talking about, and what type of frozen food try do you mean? If I could understand that, I would probably be able to picture what you are saying better. At first I thought you meant an ice cube tray but that isn't a food tray, so I'm not sure...

long term to save on micro greens, if you have the room grow a couple plants to full sized and let them go to seed would gets you a long way towards the winters microgreens

I gave up buying seed packets for microgreens. I eat a TON of microgreens. I started buying deer browse seed. By the jug (3lbs for $20). My favorite mix is called Big Sexy and is a wonderful mix of daikon, purple top turnip, brocolini and kale.

I grow microgreens in the winter when I can't grow outside. We eat them almost everyday between the mixed microgreens and alfalfa sprouts. A big handful per person. It's so nce to have that freshness in the wintertime.

I use them every day. I make a juice with broccoli radish kale sunflower Dunn peas and beetroot . I am growing about 15 trays a week (10/20 trays) inside a 1.5x1.5x2mtr grow tent and lights. I’ve only been supplying myself and family but am about to start offering them for sale to select people.

I enjoy growing micro greens and sharing with my congregation. I use the yellow lid of the 27 gallon Costco bins for micro greens and the bottoms to do my container gardening. It produces a lot of greens to share, is a nice tiny forest to look at, and centralized in one space saving location.

I started exploring microgreens last year and decided to not invest before trying on a small basis, ended up going with Hamana but due to getting started in the winter it was very slow to germinate and I got discouraged. I canceled subscription and put the remaining 3 seed quilts in the fridge. Summer came around and the seed quilts were a success but I decided it was too much for the subscription and I wanted to try growing on my own. Fast forward to a month ago I grew the last seed quilt for a friend who has Cancer and got the ball rolling. My first two batches were ok, but I decided to go back and watch more videos, I needed to learn again. That’s when I found your channel🌟 Since a month now I’ve successfully grown four 4x8 trays for myself and a friend, and this week started experimenting with different containers and using soil in some and hydro in others. I can eat a whole small tray myself! Cut those and make a simple and quick sandwich. My friend with cancer bought the seeds which was a mixed greens, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi … and one other. The mix is good tasting but I’m not a fan of the different growths in one batch. She is going through Chemo and doesn’t eat well, but she says when she is able to eat she puts the greens on a sandwich, and also feeds it to her birds! Anyway, I’m hoping to try growing larger greens like lettuce and kale soon. Just need to decide which way to go, a bucket or downspout style. With cooler weather looming I want to have a good plan going and perhaps an indoor setup once winter hits when the temp in my house is typically 60 degrees. Thanks for all the ideas and sharing what you do with great guidance and inspiration.

As always, your videos are an inspiration as I continue to progress with my journey of growing my own food. You are always very encouraging and optimistic. I've always failed in gardening. But you give me hope. I love how economically you encourage us to grow food and making it look so easy. Because funds are so tight, rather than buying seeds, I decided to try sprouting some spaghetti squash seeds and bell pepper seeds that I saved from food I purchased at the grocery store last year and saved the seeds. I don't think I saved the seeds correctly, but I decided to give them a try. To my surprise, I have a bunch of little spaghetti squash seedlings, waiting for it to get warm enough to put them outside in the buckets I plan to stack outside the way you showed us. And, after 4 weeks, my bell pepper seeds are just beginning to sprout. They are so tiny, and I hope that they will thrive. I should have started with microgreens first because when you show us how fast they grow...so plush...I think that is exciting. But I had these seeds already. I am looking forward to doing more of what you do. You're the master!!! Your ideas are genius and I am so thankful to you. You've given me so much hope. Thank you so much!!! God bless you!!!!!!!

I grow, eat, and love microgreens. But I tried the rain gutter garden with absolute failure. I got tower gardens and used them for 3 years, but they are soooooo noisy. So, I'm back to trying something else.

We grow a lot of sprouts moreso then microgreens. We have a local herbal and health food place that sells a lot of bulk loose sprouting seeds. Wheatgrass, radish, mustard, kale, chia, and others. Otherwise I kind of stick to True Leaf and Sprouthouse. I ethically can not use Johnny's for quite some time, due to them letting themselves be part of the Monsanto/Bayer problem in the world. I currently have 2 bags of kale vaccum sealed that I bought awhile back that are at least 3 lbs each. Same with yellow and brown mustard seed. What I’ve been doing I grow different kinds of lettuce via your microgreens diy method with take out containers. I usually do two different kinds of lettuce in one container I imagine a sort of imaginary line in the center and I will plant one type on each side and then I’ll harvest the few that I need to grow my lettuce and then I’ll let the microgreens that are left continue to grow in the original container and I make sure there is a constant supply fo water for them and then when it’s time to harvest my other lettuce plants then I’ll cut the tops off of the microgreens and use them in my salads and it gives them a lovely crunch and in that way I don’t feel like I’m wasting any. The really interesting part is after cutting them an inch from the soil and leave them in the light they will continue to grow I don’t know it’s the ones that I cut that are continuing to grow or if it’s seeds that failed to grow the first time because it was crowded and they weren’t getting enough light? I’m honestly not sure which reason I’m just thrilled when they continue on growing and another little tip if I find the soil is starting to turn white around the edges or on top of the soil I think it’s because of a bit of fungus so I use from the drugstore 3% hydrogen peroxide it now comes in convenient easy to spray bottles and I just spray it directly over the top, it doesn’t hurt the lettuce at all and it kills off any nasty fungus or mold that may be growing. I have done the Micro things and we just don't put a dent in them. But we love growing full blown veggie's and full leafy greens for salads and stir-fry. we started our doing hydroponics and your down spouts a year ago in conjunction with a Keto diet. My wife took off 45 lbs and I took off 70 lbs all in about 6 months and now its been a year and we haven't put any back on and it all started with following you and growing Micro greens then CB came into the picture and things went crazy from there. you've seen my videos. OH by the way I'm 74 and my wife is 69.

I eat a ton of microgreens, I am even eating them with my oatmeal. I add blueberries and wow it tastes great. I am growing a lot of baby greens now. What I do is cut them for microgreens, then leave the tray to grow into baby greens. There is usually enough seeds that sprout slow that they will grow after I cut the micros. [I found this out when I forgot to replant a micro tray, I came back and had baby greens] Then if they are too thick, I harvest every other one until I get the baby green spacing I want. It works great. I also use worms in my trays, I think I am one of the only one on youtube that does this. It works great, it solves all the mold problems. I have a kale tray that is almost 2 years old and still cutting on it every week, the worms make it possible. So to answer your question, yes I eat a ton of micros and incorporate them in every meal. I am in the process of expanding my grow room. I want to experiment with all the other greens as there are hundreds of them. [take that, you who say "what are you going to eat on a whole food diet"] I always laugh when they tell me that. Most people eat 4-5 different meals that they rotate, I am discovering many unknown greens and root veggies that I could eat something different everyday for months. Purple Kohlrabi was a neat find. Growing indoors there is no pest problems and it has been so rewarding. Anyway, thanks for your content. Keep on growin :)

I love, love, love cantaloupe micro greens and I buy the seeds in bulk. I’m not crazy about the cost, mess of the grow medium. I’ve experimented with different options and haven’t found “the one”. I saw a video using towels recently. I’m going to give that a try. I live in the desert and we have 115+ days most of the summer so I grow several things indoors with grow lights. I keep planning to grow melons outside and save seeds to save money but haven’t done that yet🙃

I love eating microgreens but too expensive to buy so I want to grow them. I've grown them before but not consistently. I want to have an efficient system so it doesn't take up a lot of my time and we can eat them every day I recently moved to Florida and we grow a lot vegetables and I also want to grow hydroponic greens in the summer. I use french green clay as a gentle detox. Along with drinking fresh juice or smoothies made with greens/veggies. I prefer broccoli sprouts, a mix of micro greens and stinging nettle.

Mike, I am setting up my system and bought some rockwool, but it's got some bad press, and I really would rather use something a bit more environmentally safe like your pool noodle system. The only pool noodle I have is old and has seen many a day in a chlorinated swimming pool for a number of years now. Would the exposure to chlorine make it unsafe for hydroponics, or would it be best to just buy a new one? By the way, just want to say that I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel. You and Khang Starr are giving me all the information I need to start this new gardening adventure!

I’m going to start growing lettuce and spinach inside with hydroponics. I like the idea of the soil mat, but if I’m going the hydroponic route then i want to exclude soil altogether. What medium can i use instead of soils when germinating and sprouting my seeds. Thanks so much. Love your videos.

We just started our first microgreens based on your school children videos. Using shallow black bottom restaurant containers our greens sprouted in 2 days, but has fuzzy stuff. Too wet ? We didn't peak in 48hours. Need a fan for air flow? The top we put on didn't fully seal it so I thought it would be ok.

Thanks for this video, Mike. I now understand I've been doing this all wrong, which is why I don't have any seedlings yet to put in the downspouts I got from you. Early on my goal was to sprout bok choy, mustard greens and Swiss chard that I could transplant to your downspout planters and/or the garden. That failed, so I tried rock wool next and the seeds molded instead of sprouting. I have a random question, what do you do with left over hydro nutrients when a grow cycle is complete in the down spouts etc... I have been trying to research if I can use it to water/fertilize the inground or raised bed gardens, but I keep finding mixed info, either perfect or contributes to runoff issues.

Hi Victoria, I'm Mike's wife. He pours the leftover nutrients into my square foot gardens or avocado and citrus trees. I use worms to fertilize and aerate my soil, and the leftover nutrients doesn't seem to bother them.

I have recently heard of cannabis growers growing micro greens to chop and blend with water and fertilize their plants because seeds sprout with enough stuff to keep them alive for 3 weeks without fertilizer. Does that sound like something that would work to anyone? Not necessarily for cannabis, but any garden fruit.

@@KeepOnGrowin Just wanted to say that on Feb 27 in a cloner that sprays the water up on the roots I planted a kale seed by just cutting a small strip of fabric and placed it into the slotted plug with like a pleat fold and placed the seed just inside the pleat and put it back into the whole so it would spray onto the fabric and keep it moist. Well yesterday I had a sign of life and today the little baby first leaves :) No pre-sprouting or anything but I did start some other seeds to go into a unit I will make in a day or so. Thanks again for inspiring me to go back at trying to grow my own greens...

I got a lot of mold on my trays. Is there anything I might have done wrong? I put the potting soil directly over the paper towel and then sowed the seeds and then put another thin layer of soil. I didn’t turn on a fan though until a few days had passed.

@@KeepOnGrowin I started with a four foot one. I drilled 10 holes close together and 10 holes offset on the rest of the pipe. I wish I could attach a photo of it. We harvested 12 Lettuce plants and 9 Spinach in about 11 weeks. We moved from Ft. Myers, Fl. to Wooster, Ohio. Kinda hard getting one started up here. Nothing seems to want to germinate. Great channel by the way. I have been watching you for about a year now.

Cilantro is finicky. Some of my crops fail. They need sunlight but can't take too much heat when they are young. Once the plants get established, they take off.
