Just saw Mikey, Red Sun and Pecas at the Parelli Celebration in Birmingham, UK - AMAZING!!! You are an inspiration Mikey.

Absolutely astonishing! I do Parelli training with my horses. they do not have a fear of me, only mutual trust and understanding. It takes so much longer to teach them when you use this method, vs. 'cowboy training them' but you end up with a horse that trusts, loves and understands you. Well worth it and highly recommended!! GREAT job MIKEY!!

the bond between these two is truly amazing...there is no doubt of the love that is shared between horse and human. the first time i watched this video, i cried out of sheer exuberance. This to me is the sole purpose of humans in relation to a horse: to have this bond and use it in the most beneficial way possible. If I could one day have half the bond this man and his horse have, i would consider it my own personal nirvana.

That was really great, I enjoyed watching it. What a nice horse, and good relationship between horse and man. So much trust, obedience, and confidence.

Amazing video, so glad you posted it lammas, I don't think I've seen Mikey before. I've completed level one with my quarter horse cross gelding, and just about every horse I've been able to work with, lol. I can't wait till next year when Pat comes to Williamston NC so I can get level two.

I keep coming back to this video.. and refer people to it a LOT. What I notice is his stick, how often it's in neutral position (a very good thing) and how often he lovingly touches this horse, especially after he's asked for something difficult. He's just so gentle with the relationship.

i can't post a slightly argumentative comment on this video's commentary and not post a legit comment about the video itself. I love watching this video. The horse reminds me of my sister's horse. Lots of ppl have always mistaken her countenance as being angry when she is actually just doing something she loves.

What a good job, the jumping at the end was awesome and the video makes me happy, what a partnership. To the person who called Pat "fat pat" jeez what did he do to rattle your cage, do I detect a bit of jealousy there? Saw Pat P in Birmingham England, thought he was amazing, he talks the talk AND he walks the walk.
@msityhorse200116 жыл бұрын
It is a savvy string around the neck. Kind of like a liberty ring, but it can be used for other things. It's no secret or anything. It is used until the freestyle "savvy" is advanced enough to go without it as a safety net.

the one time....try several times espically when the guy is on him. real training is simply showing the horse what you want it to do and rewarding it when it gives you the right response...timing and paticence also plays a huge factor too. it doesn't matter what the horse wants it is wether they are willing to listen or not but you must be patient and fair among other things

What some people don't seem to be understanding is that playing with a horse like this at liberty is THE TRUTH in your relationship with that horse. That arena was big enough for him to gallop off and just hide in the corner or run to the gate.
@oliviadreamcatcher17 жыл бұрын
please don't talk about parelli until you know a bit more about his philosphy. This partnership is level 4 and there is another 6 levels beyond that, perfection is obtained by leaving the horse think he is the winner not through constant correction.

Well, right now I ride English with my mare, but you can still tell she was originally a parelli horse. She doesn't do a brideless piaffe (or one with a bridle to be honest), but she is *extremely* easy to handle. It is a nifty thing for a horse to be, but hardly a trick :) So don't be too quick to judge. Most horses would benefit from parelli groundwork - even the ones who are athletes and team-mates rather then friends and pets.

allyonpally: Relationships don't just appear out of thin air. How will you work with your horse if she/he is out eating? The halter, carrot stick, crops, bits, ropes, etc all disappear with time as the horse gets more sensitive. I don't think that your form of training is wrong, but this way works: there are too many great results to say it doesn't. What was keeping the horse with him when he was on the ground? The carrot stick wasn't, honest.

Do a Google search on Michael Wanzenried and scroll down to the entry titled Inspiration. That's his site. He's a PNH instructor in Switzerland. Oh, and Red Sun is indeed an Arabian according to the website.

I think that this is fantastic. What do you call natural. I think that the horses expression says all. He looks happy and enjoys this. This is what horsemanship is all about. From A level 3 Parelli student.
@msityhorse200116 жыл бұрын
lol, that is so cute how you said it...but I wouldn't be surprised to have a lot of sour comments coming for it, lol. It's the story for a lot of ppl who do Parelli though. You were either just getting back into horses, already a natural horseman taking in a new source, or someone who thought Parelli was a stupid scheme to teach horses circus tricks. And what reverence I have for all of the 3rd group who have a cup of humility and actually try it.
@ponygirl7217 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, Red Sun was a rogue stallion who was given to the Parelli center because he was so dangerous. Parelli gave him to this Level 4 student to work with, and these were the results at the time. Mike still owns this horse, who is now a gelding, and continues to progress and refine his training. "Ruined", indeed. :/

Go to Ebay, search for "Parelli Level 1". You will usually find several old-style Level 1 kits going in the $50 range. That's the price of two low-end riding lessons. Knock off halters and sticks are cheap, or you can just start out using the equipment you already have. It's the knowledge that's valuable, not the overpriced lead lines-- that's just how the Parelli's pay for their lovely ranch in Colorado. :-)
@sasseyo17 жыл бұрын
do you have to have the right sort of horse to do this, because they all seem to be quater horses etc. i have a 14.2 holiestine x new forest, nd i'm very intrested in parelli, but 1 he oersn't lyk bein lunged basicaly tries to kill whoever is lungin him so is this ever goin to b possible 4 mi.

I don't mind that you agree with that view, but I can't tell a lie...I was actually being sarcastic. The horse in the vids I referred to is a Level 3 horse, and she obviously has spirit. I don't see anything wrong with the system so far, but I totally respect the opinion that it is not flawless. I think that someone who could better relate to you is a user that goes by turtle something or other. Sorry again.

I don't like to get involved in these arguments anymore, but you will find the same idea of a string, ring, or no bridle to communicate with a horse. As for this particular horse's play drive, I can honestly witness to the fact that not all horses look like bunnies when they are playing (It is really up to you where the line, which is fine, is drawn b/t a good and bad countenance).
@msityhorse200116 жыл бұрын
Just look how tentative Red Sun is! It is really humbling when you build a language with your horse using patience instead of force and end up with a flight animal that is willing to follow you the same way he or she follows the alpha horse.

A CS is not a whip - if you'd ever held one in your hand you'd know what I mean. They are heavy and inflexible, so it's hard to use one as a whip even if you'd want to. If you whack your horse with it, it just bounces back doing little to no damage. CS are meant to be an extension of your arm. Mind you -- some people use their whips to the same purpose and that's really how it should be. NH isn't really about the tools anyway -- it's about the mindset :)

hm. well, i don't really know. from what i have heard red sun used to be a problem horse so it might be just some old issues? then again, if you look at Jean Francois Pignon horses for example, they look down right agressive when he preforms with them! so it might be some kind of effect that liberty training has on some horses? maybe they are being playful :S hm, hm, dunno, sorry. but most of the time red sun seems to be fine imo, he only pins his ears now and then.

Teaching a horse to rear isn't actually stupid if you have a solid foundation with your horse, and he totally respects you as the dominant or alpha in the relationship. Your trainer porbably doesn't use psychology, with most trainers, its the "My way or the highway" approach
