Mikey, we have a couple of female cats who have spawned several litters. And over the years of looking after cats at home, we have come to understand that once mother cats bear weak litters, they cannibalize them. Gory as it sounds, but I have witnessed these so many times already. A few of the cats we feed here in our neighborhood are old but still get pregnant because they weren't spayed. Weak kittens don't make it which is why the mother cats cannibalize them. Natural selection is very, very true.

Not necessarily weak kittens too, once the feel crowded or if they are not confident that they can raise the litter, they cull the kittens no matter how healthy. happened to one of our litters.

Ive rescued and adopted some cats and kittens. This is so true. Mama cats would kill kittens to save some of them - could be because she knows food supply isnt enough for all of them or if kittens are weak. Mama cats know if they would survive or not. It is also possible that other cats could have attacked the kittens. Male cats would often do this if they feel that their stand as being the alpha male would be threatened. Though sad, that's just how they are. You are doing great Mikey and RJ and the whole fam. Thank you for giving Melody a home! p.s. I rewatched that vlog with kittens and noticed that the pattern on some of the kittens are those of calico. If by any chance, they were male, they will be killed by cats around them. They are known to be a threat in the cat world.

But she would just not stop having kittens and Mama Cat looked weak and malnourished after each pregnancy. We had her spayed and now all she does is eat, sleep, and stay put. She has gained weight and her aura has become much brighter. Thanks!

It is possible that stray male cats were the culprit. Male cats sometimes attack and kill young kittens that aren't theirs, I personally experienced this when my kitten got out and was attacked by a male cat, luckily the injuries weren't fatal. I hope that the other missing kittens are safe❤

I doubt it was a cat cuz whatever killed the 3 TOOK the other ones...or ate them immediately. My guess is something bigger than a cat & more wild. I don't know what wild mammals r n his area but something like a fox or coyote or something of that size would b my guess 🤔🤷

Exactly the male cats attack the baby kittens because if they are not the father they wil killed them.if the kitties are missing the mother hiding them for the male cats just she's protecting them.

I felt sad for melody,I can relate because I also had a female stray cat that now lives our house and had 3 kittens,but one had only survived,a female kitten named SAKURA,a very healthy and chunky cutiieee black striped with wash orange color in her fur hehehe 😂

sorry to hear about what happened to the kittens, It is possible that the mom cat sensed that her kittens are weak or may have a disease, hence her mercy killing her offsprings. if the other 3 is missing she might have relocated them to where she feels that they are safe. try checking on her as she will always go back to her babies.

(3) As a first time mom, Melody might have accidentally bit these 3-kittens on the neck while moving to a safer place.. I think these are the possible causes based on our experience as we have been taking care of many cats since I was a kid.... Through this sad experience, you will be able to learn how to be a responsible fur dad to cats. It is a continuous learning...Mommy cats usually are ready to be spayed after she finished producing milk for her kittens. Usually, 2-4 months or when the kittens start to eat on their own...

Hi Mikey, it’s best to spay Melody. Female cats go into heat every month. She may have hidden the other kittens to protect them. So awful that the others died😢. And oh, as a cat owner, don’t always feed her pellets. Those could cause kidney problems. You have to include wet food in her diet (buy cat food in can and give her some by mixing with a little water). Or mince some fish with broth. Boiled chicken with carrots with some broth is their favorite!

Mikey there are really cool tech accessories you can buy, like a cat flap you could place as access for the dog area, and this would have microchip recognition for Melody; this way, only she could be able to access there and not the other cats, and you could put the food there. Check it out :D

Hi Mikey! When I was a teen in the Philippines I found 4 newborn discarded kittens on the road. I brought them home secretly because my parents were tired of me bringing animals home, but I mean, how could I just leave them there. Anyway I bottle fed them every 3-4 hours and helped them to relieve themselves after every meal. I even went home during lunch break to quickly feed and tend to them and rush back to school. After school I would rush home to tend to them. During the night I would set my alarm for every 3-4 hours to get up and feed them until I had to be at school by 7am. And I did that until their eyes opened up. One morning I heard my babies crying, in my bathroom(thats where I kept them) but this morning I was so tired and my alarm wasnt to go off for another hour or so, so I figured they could wait a little bit since I just saw them. Morning came, I checked on them before getting ready for school, and they were not moving… my babies were cold and not soft or cuddly like a few hours ago. I was so sad, then I saw my little black one meow softly and move a little, I picked him up and he had gashes on his head, and neck😢 I checked the others and they had been mauled aswell. I was so confused and so sad how could that happen?! Then I realised my window to the bathroom was a little open. And I felt in my heart it had to be a rat, the bite marks looks like from rat teeth. I ended up o not going to school that morning and i stayed home crying. My bestfriend came to my house looking for me, I can’t remember if it was before school or during lunch, but she stayed with me after when she saw my pathetic self holding and staring at my little baby. I couldn’t do anything but just pet him until he took his last breath a few hours later. I felt so sick when I remembered they were calling for me, and I did not come😢 they must of been so scared and I just never came…still breaks my heart thinking about it, and it’s been around 20years. Melody may have moved the other babies to a new spot, if she has you should see them in a few weeks or so when they start running around or crying louder😊 hopefully that is the case, could also be the stray males. Like lions they kill babies so the mother goes into heat again so they can mate with her. So she should be spayed to avoid her getting pregnant again. There is also a catch and release thing you can do where you catch any stray cats on ur property and spay/neuter them and just release them again. Because stray cats like to roam and some are wild they can still watch over your property or their territory which helps keeps new comers away, but they can no longer multiply. There are some programs you could get in contact with. Im just not sure how it works if you need to check with neighbours if any of them belong to them🤔 Anyway just thought to leave a comment because it reminded me of my baby cats… Thank you for your vlogs❤

It’s possible it’s a rat I witnessed this by myself in the year of the rat 2020 during the lockdown. It was my first time to take care of a kitten so I didn’t let her inside my apartment but I made a box for her just outside my door. It was the time restaurants were close and people were back home in their province so nothing to eat for rats. I heard a commotion at around 3am and heard the kitten struggling and screaming. I ran fast. I was still awake. And I saw the box shaking and then the rat jumped out of it. I cried so hard. Got depressed for a few days. I blamed myself for having an OCD that stopped me to let that kitten took a shelter in my place.

We are sorry to hear about the kittens, however my mom has a theory that an animal called a Palm Civet (Musang in the Filipino language) may have hunted the cats for prey. If she's spayed the males won't come around. Mikey please keep a close eye on her. She's going to become engorged. Her milk will continue to produce and its extremely painful. You could also lose her to infection. Please take her to the vet immediately if you are going to be feeding her because she is your responsibility now. Please keep a close eye on her.

It’s understandable since it’s your first time to have a cat under your care/guard and Melody is a first time mom as well so she might have not know yet where to keep her kittens. But usually cats hide their kittens taking them to any nooks they can find and I guess it so happened that there are no openings in your house where she could get in. Pls give it a time to find the missing 3 kittens before spaying Melody but not to exceed 2 mos as she could be pregnant again by that time. Hope the 3 kittens are still alive and hidden somewhere. Thanks for taking Melody. By the way, if you are planning to help curb the stray cats in your area, you can sponsor for neutering the stray male cats (as it is cheaper than spaying female cats) as this will help lessen the cat fights

Being her 1st litter, Melody didn't know to be more protective. She may be feeling bad with not being able to nurse & may need a vet check. We had a similar cat when I lived in the country. She had her kittens on our porch. I heard a noise and came out to see a stray dog killing them. We saved two and brought them and the mom inside. The kittens remained indoor cats from then on.

Now the mom cat left the baby kitten alone. now she's an orphaned. taking care of her now and she's 5 months old.... God bless you always Mikey and RJ for having a big heart for the animals. 😇

Hi guys, oh we are so sorry for the loss of the kittens. From what I know, tomcats know if kittens are theirs and may try to harm or kill kittens that are not their own offsprings. They don't do that because they are bad or mad but because it is their instinct to want their own line to continue and those of other males not to grow and reproduce. it could also be that Melody ate her kittens, just like what our cat, Helga, did to her kittens. they say that they do that when the mom is under stress or if they feel threatened. Helga ate one kitten whole and zhe onky ate half of her 2nd one.

When melody was sleeping under the sun nearvthe swimming pool and was not able to greet you back…she maybe is feeling bad not just emotionally but physically. She might be running a fever because of milk, no kittens are getting it, makes you feel sore and sick.

Aaaw those poor kittens 😖😖 I used to have stray cats come into my property. The last one who got so attached to me, just one early morning kept nipping at me, obviously wants my full attention. She was pregnant BUT I never knew how long it takes before cats give birth. Turns out this specific mama was ready to give birth. And once I stopped moving around & just sat in the outdoor patio, mama cat lay on her side & started giving birth right in front of me!!! It was my first time to witness cat birth ever! So after the first baby was out, I got up to immediately look for a safer place for them. But mama seemed upset that I left & she started following me around again. As soon as I got some old wooden wine boxes set up, with old towels as interior lining, I sat back down & mama birthed 4 more kitties. Oh btw, yes, mama cats who've spent time with their kittens & then those babies suddenly die or disappear after a few days, mama feels the pain of loss. I've seen other mamas in the past, meowing, calling out to their babies in hopes of finding them. But back to this mama, who chose to give birth in front of me, so the kittens come out looking like they're inside a "wrap" which the mom licks off & eats to replenish lost nutrition. Found out later, cats sometimes don't eat before giving birth, bcoz they're busy looking for the perfectly hidden spot to birth their litter. So they're famished & eat the "kitten" sack + all the other "after birth" stuff that come out = gives mama all the nourishment she needs to produce milk for babies. The babies didn't look like kittens until after mama licked their "wrap" off of them. Once they looked "normal" I put on nitrile gloves & placed them inside the (wine) wood boxes & made sure only mama can get in & out. After about 5 days, I couldn't sleep coz mama cat was hissing angrily in the middle of the night. So I got up & went to check on our new cat family. I was shocked to see 3 HUGE raccoons trying to get into the cat box!! I was able to scare them off & I did some research & found out raccoons will sometimes eat smaller cats/kittens when they're hungry & can't find anything else to eat. One of my neighbors, who also started fostering/feeding another cat family, told me it was probably the same raccoons who attacked kittens born in her backyard. She said she went out one day to check on her little garden, and was surprised to see dead, half eaten kittens + body parts scattered everywhere 😳😵‍💫😖😫😫 So I asked my spouse to build some kind of a more secure enclosure, so if the raccoons come back, they wouldn't be able to easily grab & eat the kittens. It worked out, babies grew & I was able to find forever homes for them ~~ best part of having older co-workers who have grandchildren who want cats/kittens as birthday gifts 🐈🎁🥳🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

From what I have read when I had cats and kittens, Tom cats prey on kittens because apparently, when Female cats are finished nursing they’ll be ready to mate again. Not sure of its true but I have had an encounter with a Tom cat hunting a kitten.

I was thinking the same thing too. I remember seeing a documentary about lions from different prides killing cubs. Hopefully Melody was able to hide the surviving kittens. If not, there's always another chance for her to have another litter and future proofing by moving the litter indoors.

Keep watching for the remaining kittens. She could have saved them and hid them. Most likely it was a feral cat that attacked the kittens. If you want to fix Melody, you have to wait until her milk dries up. The way you can tell is, how to properly say this - her mammary glands will not be swollen anymore. That is what my vet had told me after my cat had kittens. Which it took about 3 weeks after she stopped nursing the kittens. But don't wait too long after she dries up, cats are not like dogs, they can put themselves into heat at any time to have more kittens.

So sad to hear it mikey. My mum also told me the news back home in the Philippines that our cat just gave birth two weeks ago. During nightime a male cat is determined to kill the kittens. So the mummy cat can mate again. My dad made sure to keep the kittens safe by then.

Melody is probably having hormonal issues. You could see in the last video when she was nursing the kittens how tired she was. Now that she hast to absorb the milk back, and go back to being a regular cat, her hormones are in flux and she will be feeling that. Yes, please spay her as soon as possible When an animal has six kittens, there is a reason for that in nature: anything bigger than that animal is likely to eat the young. Or anything can happen. I've had friends with indoor cats who had kittens and lost most of the kittens, usually within a day or two. best wishes to you and all the family of all the creatures..

I saw this and had to jump online to see what’s up… It was really wonderful to meet some of RJ’s family! What a special moment! A Pool Pull obe Pilipinos! LOL. Such a great group of friends to share a great night in Manilla. That is such sad news about the kittens. It’s very sad to think that there are dangers like that around the farm. I guess it’s part of life on the farm. I hope nothing would happen to the puppies as they’re out in the yard. I think you should spay Melody. It’s really the responsible thing to do. Your soul is so special that you’re so concerned. We do the best we can as humans and I know you all did your best. You have the right intentions and you’re working to learn how to care for her as best as possible. This is a great example. I love going shopping with you guys. I could do this for days! Crate and Barrel is so cruisey here (like Ikea, total gay bait). You can never have too many pillows (I have 12 on my bed alone). OMG, a Cartimar stop!! So cool!! We have the best positive vibes here. Even with some tragedy, we all get through it together. You know you have a world of people sharing all this with you… sending you love and compassion. My sincere condolences, I have 2 feral cats that just got pregnant, the 2 mothers are friendly with me, they sleep with me in my tiny home. And I feed them. I'm not sure where they will choose to have there babies. I'm assuming it will be outside somewhere. Thank goodness I don't live in an area that has many wild animals or snakes. Male cats usually do that especially if it isnt their offspring. I was meaning to comment last video but decided not to. I wish i did that maybe things turned out different 😢 we also have had experiences where kittens go missing. Its possible the male cats got them and killed them elsewhere.

Stray cats are territorial. Agree with the others with that it may have been Melody. Maybe they could have been temporarily in the iguana house or the dog run?

Maybe some mother cat ( who lost her kittens) tried to get some of Melody’s kittens. My only dog here adopted one kitten and the kitten sucks milk from this dog ( although I don’t think the dog has milk ‘ coz she hasn’t had babies nor got pregnant yet.

Please do not leave the smaller dogs unattended in the yard. My friend's chihuahua was snatched by an owl while she was walking it, unleashed. There are just too many predators where you live. We are not safe here in Florida either. People wake up to gators in their pools sometimes. There was an old lady whose house was near a pond and a gator snatched her dog. She tried to save her dog but the lady ended up passing away from her injuries. I pray that Melody comes back with the babies. Be safe.

Some male stray cats are actually killing kittens same here in our province. I think it’s because of the rival of mating with the female cats.

Huhuhuhu, so sad because I love cats! Please , my suggestion is Melody should be brought to to the vets to spayed and check her. Need nya ng vets care too, and her kittens as well if you found them. The kittens must have to be immunized also para sa worms at mga ibang kailangan nila. Thanks much and please adopt them 😥

So sorry to hear about the kittens, but it was not a surprise. I'm surprised melody has survived. My advice is to take her to the vet, get her fixed and make her a shelter somewhere on the property so she can have at least a little safe haven.

I don't think it is not melody because there are marks on her breast that she breast feed her babies and if a mom cat killed her kitten she will eat it right after she gave birth to them, I must be a rat, and melody keep them in a safe place where she think no one can harm them, it's a mom cat instinct, she will hide her kitten once she feels that the kitten is not safe where she put her littens. Also you are right the you did not touch the kitten because if you did she will hide it right away.anyways hope the 3 kittens are safe.

Hello , i think the one who killed the kittens is the TomCat or the male cat. Whenever they wanted to mate the mother cat or being territorial he will kill the kittens. Like what happens in some stray kittens here in my area.

Totally agree with spaying Melody. Spaying and/or neutering cats and dogs is a life changer. Aside from the fact that it prevents unwanted litter, our Vet says it promotes longer life and reduce aggression. Pretty sure there’s Cons too. But personally, it change my life when I had neutered and spayed our dogs and cat. It’s 50% calmer now at our home. 😂 But if I was able to neuter our dogs before their mature age, the barking will be less, as advised by our Vet. Hope this helps. Love you MIKEY!

I rescued a stray cat before that just gave birth to 4 kittens. She ate all her kittens. 2 days after i rescued her only 1 left in their cattery. I thought she'll spare the last one but after 2 weeks, I caught her red handed chewing on her last kitten. I wish I could unsee it, still haunts me. 😢 So it's not impossible that Melody killed or ate her own kittens.😢😢 Im not really knowledgable with cats but my friends who have cats said that usually very young moms do that or maybe the kittens were weak. Have her spayed na lang.
