I absolutely LOVE the concept.....and here comes the but, BUT I don't want to have to constantly frog and change the hook size and/or tension. I tried multiple times using this yarn and did ALL the things needed to get the correct color change for each row and it just stresses me out!! I crochet to help me relax and destress so this yarn is NOT for me for doing granny squares.....and here comes another but, BUT I absolutely LOVE the color ways this yarn so I use the granny square yarn to make other beautiful crocheted projects. 😊

Thank you for this informative and succinct tutorial! Quite a few videos I've found are people dogging the pattern or some other aspect of this yarn -- which is disheartening when I have several skeins sitting on top of my stash. While getting the hook size and tension down with a granny square pattern I don't normally use has been challenging with this yarn, you give some solid advice on how to troubleshoot to get it down. Anything preset like this is going to have a learning curve. It's all in your attitude whether you end up frustrated by the challenge. I'm an intermediate crocheter (crochetist?), and the expectations of this pattern and the length of each color made me realize that my natural tension is high. I had to size up to a 6mm hook to hit each round and work more relaxed than I normally do. "Don't lose your mind" has been my catchphrase working up these granny squares. Thanks for a great video!

Love love love this yarn. Here's the secret: ditch instructions on the back of label. Use a 6.0 (J) crochet hook, chain only two in the corners (instead of three), and leave out the chain one between clusters. This way you will always have yarn of each color left over at the end of your round. Then instead of stressing, simply slip stitch along top until you get to the next start of a cluster where your new color lines up. Works every time without fail and you can't tell. The key is to be flexible and this yarn will make beautiful granny squares for everyone!

Interesting concept...and as always thank you Mikey for your honest review, tips and tutorial. 🤗 Being a crafty old crocheter😉 I actually see this as a "pooling" yarn 🤔...so, might have to get a skein just to dip into the pool😂. BTW...I usually turn my granny squares over on every other row...1,3,5, rows would go the same direction,...2,4,6, would be the flip side. To me it makes the granny square a little less "square" and more stylish...might have to get a skein to try that out. Seems like I will have lots of fun this winter. (Wonder how it will work on a round loom...probably like a pool.) Thanks, Mikey..you da' best 🤗

Alright, I finally bought a couple skeins of this yarn, and I have my first ever granny square! Juan the Yarn Addict got me going on crochet in October. I'm really enjoying it. Since I'm new, I don't have any muscle memory or "the way I've always done it", or "that's how I was taught". I did find that the first color had to be done with a 5mm hook and tight stitches. I hit all the marks using 2 hooks (5mm and 5.25mm). It was fun and I will probably make a blanket with the squares.
