Dear Laura I just croched twice into the first and last stitch of each row to increase. I ignored all other increases and just patterned to get the raised effect. As I said it used a lot more yarn , I just carried on till it fitted me. It's quite heavy . You could increase one stitch on the end of every other row if you wanted an even slower increase. Just keep trying it on to see how it feels and looks like. Good luck !

Hello Mikey, thank you for the fantastic video to learn how to make this shawl. I was trying but something went wrong in the middle.. Do i have to make 1 chain before i make 1 dc in the first open centre space? I tried 1 chain before the first dc in the first open space of the center, 1 dc in the middle of the two open spaces, 1 chain, 1 dc in the second open space in the middle and then again 1 chain to go further again? Greetings from Holland

I actually made this, it took 4 balls of the yarn otherwise it would have been too short. I had to slow down the rate of increase , it was becoming too long and thin. It looks nice but definitely for cold weather ,as heavy as a winter coat . Thanks for the idea.

I love this pattern. It looks like it has a collar. How do you make the collar? I have another question. When you do a row of DCs they are basically going to be all the same height. Then you said do the row with DCs and front post DCs. When you do a front post DC by nature of the stitch you drop down below the top of the row you are working on in order to go around the post. Therefore the top of the double crochet that goes around the front post will be lower then the top of a normal DC. Should the Front Post DC actually be a front post triple or half triple instead? If not the tops of the stitches on that row won't all be even and it will creat a ripple effect. Or is that what it is supposed to do?
@TheCrochetCrowd8 жыл бұрын
That is what it's supposed to do. It adds to the texture.
@WinterDragon768 жыл бұрын
I love this pattern. I made it 10min in watching the video. I've been very limited crocheting for 10yrs and have made a few blankets and such but I'm still pretty novice. I would classify this as a moderate pattern not an easy but perhaps it's just me. I still have yet to make any clothes beyond a scarf and these instructions over whelmed me. He said in the beginning there are slower tutorials. Idk if this pattern is more complicated than "easy" or if I just need a slower video. I got confused by 8 min in. :-/

Mikey, this is not a criticism by any means. You do wonderful tutorials. But I believe you made a mistake on the edging where you get to the center point. The pattern says " edging - (WS) Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in sp, *ch 2, sc in next 2 st; repeat * to marked st, sc, ch 2, sc all in marked st, sc in sp, repeat again from * to next corner. Turn to work across top edge. Sc, ch 2, sc in the end st of each row. Sl st to beginning sc. Finish off." Go to the first *. It says sc, ch2, sc all in the marked stitch which would be that center DC. I think you just did a sc in the marked stitch. I apologize if I am wrong. You are awesome, Mikey!
@TheCrochetCrowd8 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Mikey misses that part when he was filming. Good catch, but it shouldn't change the final project much either way.
@RitaMillerLA7 жыл бұрын
He also did the top edge wrong. It should be (sc, ch2, sc) into the end of each row. He only did (sc, c2) then did the next sc in the next row instead of the same row. Following the pattern will make the top row edging match the side edgings.

I would like to make this for my daughter who is extremely overweight. I would consider myself a beginner/intermediate crocheter. I am at a loss as to how to determine how much to increase this pattern. Please help! :)
@TheCrochetCrowd8 жыл бұрын
It starts are the top. You continue to crochet until you are satisfied with the width. So enough though you are crocheting for a bigger size, this pattern doesn't matter as it starts are the point and goes bigger. Other shawls that start at the bottom and work up are limited on the sizing. This one isn't like that.
@ionblastoidsmom8 жыл бұрын
I am still confused....so I just keep going without adding any stitches to the original chain circle? It seems that in my quest to make it wider it would then become too long,,, no?

How do you know where to place the button? Size of button?
@kyokor63076 жыл бұрын
I know this is a late reply for your comment, but in case you were still curious. My suggestion would be, if it's a surprise, find someone who has similar shoulder width and drape the shawl to determine where you'd like the button and mark it. As for size I would bunny ear tie different ones on and decide based on what you feel fits/work best.

I usually understand your patterns as they're super easy but I'm really struggling with this pattern. The photo looks as though there's straight sides of the shawl (where the shawl meets at the front of the body). But if we're just making a continuous triangle, there wouldn't be straight sides that look like that in the photo. Sorry, I'm really confused.
@missymakesdomeredith80728 жыл бұрын
Lucy Brown, hi, I get what you mean but I think it's an illusion as part of the longer edge of the shawl is folded down to make a fake collar if it's unfolded and laid flat it would be one long straight edge.

He said it took about 2.5-3.0 Caron Cakes. A Caron Cake has 7.1oz (200g) of yarn in it. So you would need approx. 21.3oz (600g) of yarn to make this shawl. Hope that helps!
@talaynaekelund14633 жыл бұрын
A Caron Cake had approx. 373yards (350m) of yarn in it. So times that by 3 to get how much you would need for the shawl as this pattern uses 2.5-3.0 Caron Cakes,
