I did love Nureyev. But Baryshnikov was the better classical dancer, by far. Even Nureyev himself said that. And the glimpse in Baryshnikovs eyes that gave that little extra of himself to his dance is so amazing and extraordinary✨. Thats what creates a star. I both love and adore Baryshnikov 👌👏❤️

It is extraprdinary to invest such work. Skill and intelligence into a dance style thatdestroys the bodybefore the age of forty. I can understand why B. escaped the Russian prison ofclassicalballet in order to enjoy the variety andthrill of modern dance options and freedom of personal expression

Baryshnikov defied gravity. His body was whip toned and should have been muscle heavy but the grace and sharp acuity of his moves belied what should have been muscle bound drag. When he leapt into the air, you could actually see a PAUSE before he descended to earth. It is so unfortunate that a dancer’s career is so short lived. You had to make your mark quite early to ride out a successful career. So wonderful to watch.

Погружаешься в музыку , глаз не оторвать от танца Михаила Барышникова, динамично и завлекательно так, что не чувствуется трудность исполнения. Вот так сложность выглядит естественностью , завораживающая картина танца.

@@KentGBecker Yes...actual she is a New Zealander and coached me when I was in the Australian Ballet. That step Misha does at the beginning of the Florimund solo....kinda like a six in front do you think? Like in 4th with three beats?
@KentGBecker3 жыл бұрын
@@oliverdownunder9397 six in front sounds reasonable. Grant calls it an Ailes de Pigeon, but a dancer I consulted does not think the term has currency. Take a look at my notes at the end of the video for more detail.
@oliverdownunder93973 жыл бұрын
@@KentGBecker No I don’t think it has currency either but I could be wrong.. To me it looks a bit like a six de vole but in 4th. It’s a lovely step. Ok I will check it out.

I had always thought the jump you describe from 3:21 onwards was a cabriole until you broke it down in slow motion. Now that I know what to look for, I think José Martinez does the same step at 10:28 in Don Q here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d565dmaLgbCgg5o. Thank you so much again for these technical notes; they are fascinating and show here how a dancer with Baryshnikov's level of technique can modify a step to contribute to the characterisation of the part he is dancing.
@KentGBecker3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Check out the glossary at the end where one dancer says that the term Ailes de Pigeon does not have currency among dancers and thinks it is more of a double cabriole. I had never heard of the term until a comment in my video on Baryshnikov from September.

I was a high school dance teacher for many years and finding a copy of the turning point after my old one wore out was a real problem. I finally purchased a new VHS copy at the movie for about $80. Interesting I could not find the movie on DVD which was the primary format at the time. So I have a very usable VHS copy of the movie!!
