He will always be a hero in my mind. A patriot who loved his country and just wanted to design the best rifle possible for its defence. He cannot be blamed for how its used and by whom. Thats like blaming Henry Ford for road deaths.

- The first variant being so bad and not fit for mass produced, so they had to come up with the AKM - 7.62x39 accuracy at long range is generally worse than 5.56 - So simple that you have to use non-dominant hand to change the magazine and dominant hand for pulling the charging handle - Despite the invincible reputation, still crumbles like cookies and the first M16 variant if handled by random pirates Definitely a perfect rifle

The irony of a Soviet weapon being described as if intellectual property, and its imitation as theft is really amusing. Rest in peace Mr. Kalashnikov, after all your trauma in World War 2, you can now rest. The battles are behind you. Someday maybe the battles will be behind everyone else, until then your legacy, like your weapons will sustain in our memories.

Not only did he design the AK47, he designed the RPK, the Saiga, the PK, and other guns, which are all still used by almost all of the armed groups in the world, including rebel groups, paramilitaries, and special operations units, due to their cost and reliability. Compare that with the M16, which its ammo corroded in the weather of Vietnam, causing jams, while the Vietcong was literally ambushing soldiers with AK47 guns.

Strange that you don't mention that they eventually improved the M16's issues... (The fouling caused by the bullets, the lack of chrome lining, interventions happening thanks to Springfield and their M14, etc.)
