Ondeggia come una papera sull'acqua....riuscirà il nostro eroe a fare l'uovo?!?! I gesti non corrispondono alla musica che viene eseguita. Visto che il giovane si trova a San Pietroburgo, città di grandi direttori d'orchestra, dovrebbe guardare ad uno di loro...ad esempio Mravinsky

without a good conductor even a great orchestra will play in a range from poor to merely acceptable. Anyway 80% (at least) of the job of a conductor is done during rehersal. Search for some rehersal video of great conductors. We could say that the greatness of a conductor is proportional to his uselessness during the concert performance. As for facial expressions they can be either sincere or just for the camera (but sometimes a little of both): just ignore them and concentrate on music.

Looks like he feels forced to make up for his shortcomings by overly exaggerating everything. Is it necessary? The orchestra seems to be totally on the ball, so I'd say it is not necessary. It is just acting. Oh wait, wasn't that the domain of the opera singers? Oh dear dear. I do understand the exaggeration of gestures when you are conducting amateurs (orchestras, singers and choirs alike) but... in front of a professional orchestra? I suppose they found that funny.
