I spent an afternoon at Mammoth mountain skiing with Miki in 72. I was working at the resort and looked the part of a surfer but I wasn't at the time, took it up in 73. Miki was amazed i didn't know who he was but we had fun and I gave him a bit of a lesson on skiing.

Amazing video. He’s my surf hero on so many levels captured in this video. His style, his views on surf and connection to life. I got to meet him in Biarritz a couple of years before he passed on and man it’s one of the highlights of my life to meet this legend 🙏🌊

Saw this flick when it debuted at the Las Palomas Theater in Encinitas (1990). A wild theater full of surfers...very reminiscent of The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 60-61. One big difference though: In those early sixties years Dora was in the last row of the theater instead of on the screen!

Late 60`s visiting my grandma off Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park area of Los Angeles and there was big spray painted Dora Lives on the side of a local liquor store. Than becoming a surfer and realizing who he was AND watching all the Beach movies of the early 60`s NOT for the cinematic quality BUT just to see Dora. Take a look at those movies, he is in mega scenes you can pick him out TRIPPY. Dora is one of the mythic gods not corrupted by the moderns.

exactly! this guy used his bullshit counter-culture persona to sell the best selling surfboard of all time, then cries about the commercialization of surfing and how crowded it was getting in. But does that stop him from promoting and selling a mass-produced board? Nah lol. Also, he was a piece of shit who ended up in jail for credit card fraud.
