Being a baker now and then for satisfying my kids and siblings cake cravings i mostly disapprove of moistening the cake with liquid syrups... I never had the need to apply syrup onto my cakes because if you follow the perfect recipe you will have a moist cake even after frosting... And I recollect many professional baker's comments that soaking cake layers is really unprofessional for them and so they don't recommend it... I personally follow the recipes of bakers CupcakeJemma,Emma goodies, Bigger Bolder Baking and preppy kitchen but rarely seen them wetting any cake with the exception for tres leches...
