Wonderful! This is one of my favorite pieces, and you do a superb job enhancing it with the huge range of the double bass. There is a lovely high around 1:00 that quickly descends to dark low tones by 1:15, and that is just one example; passages like that make me think that the double bass is really the right instrument for this marvelous piece. Just gorgeous. Thank you. 😍🤩

It’s one of the better-known and beloved classical melodies for solo string players to play (including for instance at weddings and the like), from an otherwise somewhat obscure French opera composer. It was an instrumental interlude, played by solo violin with orchestra (including harp playing the arpeggios) from an opera called Thais.

@@stevebadachmusic You’re welcome and no worries. Being “one of the more popular classical melodies” doesn’t mean everyone who is pretty into classical music has even heard it (there are just so many different pieces by so many different composers that nobody can know them all), let alone the 95% of the population who only have a very casual, passing experience of classical music. I’m just happy when people keep their ears open and are willing to listen to a variety of music and performers! And becoming a fan of classical music is a long, slow journey that has to start somewhere. I have plenty of memories of knowing very little compared to what I know today (which remains very little compared to all there is to know about it). I’m always happy to answer questions for others who are curious and interested!
