The discussion of celebrities “going through the machine” is very much on point. As for social media, this is a very powerful force that has been dumped into society and as yet is completely lacking in accepted protocols. I am also thankful that there was no social media when I was growing up (….and no touch-tone phones, either).
@txmde87772 жыл бұрын
And I 100% agree with Mila… We are about the same age, and growing up without social media was such a blessing… Our age group of people born in the mid to late 80’s, were the last group of people that mainly grew up “the old school way”… We weren’t slaves to our cellphones, internet, and social media… We didn’t have to worry about every dumb thing we said or did being recorded and going viral for all the wrong reasons… Society in general back then wasn’t as sensitive, now a days people have their lives ruined over a mistake that goes viral… There’s def a few that deserve it but a lot of people in that predicament are just dumb kids doing what dumb kids have done for generations just now the whole world gets to judge them for their mistakes… it’s pretty scary, if I had a teenage kid it would def worry me lol

we also have the benefit of being young enough that we're still tech literate- I run into a lot of parents who are only 10 years older than me and can't work a router or edit app settings without extensive help. and are wildly uninformed about what their kids run into on unchaperoned internet.
@badsaint10192 жыл бұрын
Agreed, and young people now are so brain dead that they can't keep focused on something for more than a minute, which is why TikTok, instagram clips, and even youtube shorts became popular. With social media, generally people only try to portray themselves as interesting as possible for "world wide approval" from others. Its all about seeking approval in order to show other how "cool" your life is, instead of just living it. I'm a 90s baby and Im very happy to have grown up with very limited social media. I really only kinda got into it in the early days of MySpace when I was a teen. To me those platforms were meant to be used to mess around and have fun with friends and family by posting/sharing pics and vids, not to display my entire life online for clicks and likes. Its unrealistic for social media to go away, but I hope future generations grow up knowing more about the harms of habitual social media use and how it can develop anti-social and narcissistic behavior.

The difference between then and now is not that everything gets documented and recorded, it's that people have been thaught to over-react to certain jokes, expressions and individualities. You can document and record however much you'd like but as long as there are no people there to take it seriously then there will be no problems. Things only become what we make them.
@natalijadimitrova472 жыл бұрын
I think its mostly because she didn’t have a fucked up childhood & fame in the same mix. Some celebrities grow up depressed & have a hard time navigating through it while being in the public eye at the same time .. even when there was no social media (back in the 90s, 80s, or whenever).
@VioletEmerald Жыл бұрын
She kinda did have a fucked up childhood in one key way, she was severely traumatized by moving to the USA without warning or being told she was moving there, and she didn't speak the language at all, and she repressed memories of all the pain of that the first year she was here. But I suppose it seems her parents were amazing overall and got her through it and she became amazingly resilient. I adore her.

She credits not growing up during the age of social media and her parents, but the most important reason is probably just herself - it is just who she is. Social media certainly amplifies some of the challenges of growing up, and parents can guide, but once someone is in adolescence, they are becoming who they are as individuals. She seems to have a lot of personality traits (e.g within conscientiousness and agreeableness) that makes her a likeable person who has made mostly good decisions in her life. I am basing this on the discussion- I do not know to what extent this is truly accurate.
@rikumajumder15582 жыл бұрын
But not growing up without social media is a big factor. Everyone in her and even mine (90s) still while having Videogames didn't have the Modern landscape of what Social media evolved to. It helped everyone in her and my generation to be able to detach from it if we tried quite easily. GenZ is addicted to it to the point they need therapy to get over the addiction.

@@remnant24 Personality is only partly a product of those things. Much of personality is intrinsic to the person. Notice how different siblings can be. Have you had kids? Trying making an extroverted child an introvert. So, no, is not a false distinction. There is some relationship to environment, but it is weaker than you are implying in your response. Not to mention that I am adding personality to her mention of parents and lack of social media. It would seem narcissistic for her to credit herself, so I am doing so.

Mila really got lucky in landing the exact gig she did (well that whole cast did), being in an ensemble cast for a multi-camera sitcom has been for a long time pretty much the best possible acting job you can have as far as freedom. even if you're the lead on a show, you as an actor don't really work all that much in a given week. you'll really only have one "full" day of work in the week, shoot night, otherwise it's just the table reads at the start, and maybe some blocking in the middle of the week (tho many shows use all stand ins for that)

Mila Kunis Real? For sure. I live in SD but way back when That 70s show was new I spent most of my time in LA. I stop in a Rite Aide to pick up my mother in laws meds and decide to get a cone, she's behind the counter scooping ice-cream. I don't remember what season it was but it was far enough in that I recognized who she was. My daughter talked to her for a few minutes, her mother worked there and she would go there after making the 70s show and help out. Talk about grounded

I think it's bc she was a young teen when she was on That 70s show so she learned how to talk to the media so young. As a result, she didn't have to go through the awkward existential crisis of editing and tweaking her public personality as an adult.

If the studios had a social media ban in their stars contracts it would solve so many issues
