I have very fine, thin hair and I use a method similar to the last one for a messy bun all the time. I use a larger scrunchi for the ponytail part that acts as my "donut" and wrap a smaller one in the same color around that after fanning out the hair. Then I just twist and pin pieces of the rest of my hair in alternating directions around the smaller one, and if either hair tie shows through it just looks like I have one in.

Another place to get a variety of sizes of hairpins is a dance supply store - ballet ( and even some other dance teachers require a bun too) students need to keep their hair in buns - they have a variety of sizes to accommodate different types of hair …

I love all of these styles but I’ve been seeing that last high bun all over social media and people are acting like it’s a novel style but… isn’t it just a variation of the sock bun that so many girls did in the 2010s? I’ve been doing it for years!

I have straight hair that's just above my shoulders, and I can do most of these. I do have to use a texture spray or dry shampoo if my hair is really fresh, but the volume I get with buns is incredible!
