Marpa's teacher was Naropa who was an abbot at the Nalanda University. While teaching at Nalanda Naropa met a Dakini who was disguised an old lady asked him many questions on Dharma which Naropa answered correctly said you have only learnt the bookish knowledge, not the experiential one or the ultimate one. To receive the experiential knowledge you have to seek master Tilopa. Marpa left Nalanda and headed toward what is known North India as at that time both Kashmir region and Bihar and UP were the great monasteries and gurus lived. The place is called Trilokpur, HP where Tilopa is supposed to have meditated. Naropa was also subjected to trials (12 major and 24 minor) by Tilopa before he was given the teaching.

One dharmic lesson Milarepa learned: While Milarepa was cooking a nettle soup near a stream, suddenly a strong storm came and blew away the only piece of clothing he had in the air and got tangled on top of a tree. While trying to catch the cloth, the wind knocked the earthen pot down and broke it. At that moment he realized the emptiness and impermanence of the material world.

Mila Repa's lineage is known for the practice of mystic heat known as Tumo in Tibetan - ability to generate body heat without clothes through meditation. Repa (cotton clad) is the epithet given to Mila as he survived the bitter winter in Himalayan caves with just cotton cloth. In 1970s American doctor such as Herbert Benson of Harvard University has conducted the experiment on the Tibetan Buddhist monks who practice Tumo meditation were amazed to learn the ability of monks to dry the wet cloths on their bare bodies and increase body temperature in freezing temperature through Tumo meditation. Dr Benson is one of the earliest one to adopt Mindfulness meditation as therapy in the West.

If you choose to see yourself something else than human, you choose to see other people different. If you see other people different than you, as good or bad, you try to change the natural course. If you try to change the world, you eventually see that it can't be done. Everyone grows to be as their environment has raised them. Environment, culture and genes are depended on the whole world around it. Interfering itself is too based on the knowledge you have learned from someone. It is up to you, that can you find peace in that knowledge and leave things as they are. Everything goes with its own weight and has its own time. Observe and everything finds its place within you.

Sadh guru ji, I am a Tibetan and in our narration of Jetsun Milarepa’s life journey, I have never heard milarepa going India. Yes, great Marpa ‘s guru were great Tilohpa and great Naropa from India.

If it is on or not on records does it really matter regarding the richness of the teachings? Very few are aware the famous Boddhidharma who founded Chen, Zen and it's likes in China and it finally was passed on to Japan, was from souther India?

Yes brother u r right...sad guru ji is a wise man..perhaps most logical being in India with such profound knowledged and wisdom...but..some of what he tell stories of Buddhism is not right....best part of Buddhism is we have our history got written...as the bond of teacher and student so immense and often resulted in enlightenment....written can't be wrong ...unless crooked to look authentic...in case if one does ..than one does not follow the principle of Buddha ...as one is not permitted to lie amongst many principles a Buddhist must abide by.... 🙏🙏🙏

I've been following Tibetan culture for the past few years and wanting to know about Milarepa. I heard somewhere that he was the only monk (the only person, in fact) who ventured successfully to the apex of Mount Kailash? Don't know if this is true but blessed to hear this tale from Sadhguru 🙏🙌

A very warm namaskar for Sadhguru. I really remind my late grandmother who used to tell great stories like these. These generations are happy to have you to get enlightened by your preachings. I am a spiritually enthusiastic person having a quest in search of unexplained mysteries. And by your videos I gain more knowledge. Known is a drop unknown is an ocean.

I came here as I heard today of the story of how he faced his cave when he came home and it was full of demons.. is a hopeful story to me as I've faced demons at home since 2011.. and I've fought and failed many times.. his actions his way seems true.. I'm changing my approach.. I'm afraid still but I'm going to try.. it's very physical as well as mental inward, but hearing his life story is hope.. thanks for posting this filming!!
