Somehow I managed to go the wrong way and missed Crawler's Ledge... instead I ended up crawling for real on eroding rock that must've been at a slope of roughly 50 degrees. It seemed like any step I'd take, I would've slipped and fallen. I consider myself lucky to have made it. I had no idea I wasn't on the actual trail until I went back with someone who's done it before, and we never encountered the ledge I had crawled on my way into the valley. I wonder if anyone else has gone on it. So weird.

It looks awesome but really scary! We are scheduled to do it next week. Is it the same trail coming out as going in? What if people are coming towards you on the way out?
@wirthless00310 жыл бұрын
Same trail out and back. During the mile 7 portion, there is not many places to get out of the way of through traffic so before you go make sure to keep an eye a decent distance ahead of you as well as your footing! Maybe 1 or 2 spots that are passable but for the most part this will be the trickiest part of the entire trail with a couple exceptions.

How long is this part of the trail???
@wirthless0038 жыл бұрын
+Laurissa Brown it is just about a mile of the trail and depending on if people are coming the other direction (have to share this part of the trail) it takes about an hour

Going in June to Kauai but helllllll noooo, I’m not doing this trail. I have kids to raise, instead I choose helicopter and boat ride.

I love hiking but not heights. So mile 7 won't be on my schedule ..

Honestly, I didn't feel too afraid hiking this portion. The danger didn't live up to the hype. Though I was living to the edge!!! I even climbed two hundred feet on the mountain to retrieve a pack cover that flew off.

This trial have to be destroyed and closed.

Crawler's Ledge is actually not that scary when you have done it a couple of times and have a good head for heights, so it's not dangerous enough to the point that it should be closed. It is not possible for Hawaii's DLNR to reroute mile 7 either due to the steep cliffs that flank the trail among other environmental impacts.

Everyone, if you like to hike, do this trail before you turn 30. Before you turn 25 preferably. If you wait until after 40, you will be fucked. This is a trail for young, strong, steady legs.

Robert Jensen and people over 30 can't have those? i've done plenty of hikes that were very difficult past the age of 30.
@robertjensen97759 жыл бұрын
Betsy B Thanks. I am coming from my medical background. I am just speaking in general. There will be people who are 20 who can't handle this hike, and there will be people who are 75 who can. But, in general, I'm just advising people, to not wait until they are over 40(or 45..) to try a hike like this. There's a reason why most people on this trail are less than age 35.

+Robert Jensen I agree with you - I did the much easier first 2 miles a number of times when I was in 30;s and 40's. Plan to do it again soon -- but can't see me doing this without getting too tired to stand up... and there is no place to rest. The first two miles was hard enough! (even back then)

Age has absolutely nothing to do with this! You're aging yourself by saying something so lame
