I LOOOOVED this episode! When Shooter talks about how he felt that he was the protector of the characters and the creators of those characters just hit me to my core. He is soooo spot on. I for one...do NOT believe that to be the case these days. Not one bit. At the TxElpaso show when I met Shooter, I told him to his face, that I really felt that if HE was still at the helm at marvel comics.....marvel would STILL BE "MARVEL". Not this hack ass bullshite it is now. So this episode really hit me in the feels . Great stuff! THANKS CHUCK.

Shooter was always a controversial figure but few can argue with his results. You are right that the modern crop of creators think the characters are less important than their own whims, and are more interested in destroying character's than protecting their integrity. It's all about making a name for oneself at the expense of all the history that preceded you. A real ego trip.

Wow, I'm shocked at the royalty amounts back then. Byrne was the top comic artist of the time though by far. "Key books" back in the early to mid 80's also included, to some extent, anything drawn by Byrne. Overstreet guides pointed out the Byrne drawn books and not many artists got that treatment. My favorite comic con back then was when both Shooter and Byrne were the two main guests at a Creation Conv. in Los Angeles. Shows back then weren't like they are now so you could hang out at Byrne's table and watch him draw for hours and in between commissioned drawings he was doing for people, he'd sign books with Shooter. I think you could pass him up to 5 books each time he was taking them. My favorite book is an X-Men 137 signed by the two of them but Shooter wrote in mine "and she shall stay dead -Shooter". lol.

His steps to get the books on time, save wasted money, increase pay, and implement royalties all sound so reasonable and obvious.
