The stretch of I-196 from US-131 to 44th Street is probably my favorite stretch of interstate in the country, second only to the southern approach to the Mackinac Bridge I would say

Yeah, Michigan has a hell of a time maintaining roads; they do take quite a beating in the winter, and the videos show it. It was that way when I lived for a bit in Jackson in the mid-80's. 196 is a bit long for a spur route, but because most all of the mainline numbers in the northeastern quarter of the country are taken, the Feds allow it.

There is no excuse for the horrendous condition of Michigan roads. They literally rebuild them every year to give road construction companies jobs, instead of actually building them right.
