Javier Milei argues that the real problem with the main West today is that, "even after the fall of the wall and overwhelming evidence", government actors continue to "advocate for impoverishing socialism."
NOTE: Milei's speech in this video was translated from Spanish to English using voice-matching AI software HeyGen and his lips re-synced to match the translated speech.
The original speech and transcript is available here: www.weforum.org/agenda/2024/0...

When Milei mentions that there cannot be market failures, and you say that individuals can indeed make mistakes, you are not following Milei's logic if that's a counterargument. Because if you or someone else fails in the market, that is, performs poorly, it's not a market failure, it's a failure of the entrepreneur who misread the market. In other words, they failed to identify the preferences of the individuals who make up the market, and as a result, they are expelled through bankruptcy. That is not a market error, it's a miscalculation, not of the market but of the indivuduals who invest in the market.

Poverty is coercion
@IAMTRASHMAN267

poverty is a human's natural state. Whether in a market system or out in the wilderness, we all have to labor to survive. That isn't coercion. That is a reality of existence.
@oneeyedrob
@oneeyedrob 4 ай бұрын
And creating situations where you devalue labor and limit options is coercion. If we land on a deserted island in a storm, you wake up first, grab the only weapon and all the food. You now have power over me… anything you ask can now be considered coercion.
@IAMTRASHMAN267
@IAMTRASHMAN267 4 ай бұрын
@@oneeyedrob 1. Those situations almost always arise out of special favors, privileges, and regulations that prop up one industry over another. 2. That is coercion, but your example only applies in the instance of a true monopoly, which can only exist with the aid of favoritism from the State. The State has the true monopoly on coercion. There are ways to combat those types of coercion as described in your second paragraph in a society-based sense, such as unionizing and organizing (stopping short of seeking out State-based favoritism). Collective bargaining is a free market action, as labor is a resource to be negotiated. Free market capitalists aren't anti-unionization. They're against unions running to the State for special privileges, which is a form of coercion.

Instead of saying there is "no market failure" when property rights are voluntarily exchanged, it could be better to say something like, no overall market failure, which would cause such a deep-rooted economic collapse that only massive government intervention could restore it, when property rights are voluntarily exchanged.
@diamondthree
@diamondthree 4 ай бұрын
I disagree. The conclusion is a logical one. If all actions of exchange in a society are voluntary then in order for a "market failure" to have occurred, we have to thus say that someone took an action that was against their percieved interests. We must imply true altruism. So altruism = market failure? It doesn't make any sense. Abandoning the concept of a "market failure" solves the incongruity.
@williamlovaton8182
@williamlovaton8182 4 ай бұрын
There might be "market failures" but those failures are better solved by the market itself. Government intervention always results in a suboptimal solution that requires even more intervention later on. Markets should not be regulated by the state, but keep in mind that there is no such thing as an unregulated market, markets are always regulated by the very own market (eg, independent reviewers, private standards, purity seals, etc)

Has Milei even mentioned reducing the budgets of the military and police?? No. True libertarians reduce the military and police funding at least as much as, or best more than, reduction of all other public expenditures. True libertarians _actually_ reduce the punitive-state. No, Milie is not at all an _actual_ libertarian, let alone an ancap.
@EliamDar
@EliamDar 4 ай бұрын
Some context regarding the military and police budget is important here. The previous government due to their leftist leanings and history between the military and the terrorist organisations that tried to take the power and create a comunist Argentina, reduces the military and police budget way below what is reasonable for a country this size. I believe that Javier Milei intends to increase and modernize both the police (here I also include the GN and Coastguard) and the military. Keep in mind that we have huge borders to protect.
