Rocky, glad you enjoyed it. I had thought about this before the flood but just never got around to it. I wanted to show all my Miles. The box sets are great when I’m working in the office, turn them on and let the music relax me. Enjoy your weekend Rocky. Steve

Hi Steve, thanks for sharing part 2 of the collection! I am glad you have the Cellar Sessions.. That for is the one i always go back to...In my humble opinion it shows Davis at his creative peak producing improvised music that truly rocks! Stay safe.. Best wishes from London, England. Peter

Peter, so true. Often in rock the concerts are the same but jazz was about improvising and bringing the rest of the band along for a ride. His band was so incredible during this. Always great to hear from you Peter

Some great looking boxes Steve. Totally agree regarding the live boxed compilations....you can hear them letting loose in a live setting; it's also great to hear multiple treatments of the same songs. It's a lot of listening...that Plugged Nickel set...and Newport...Blackhawk...wow! Thanks for showing them! ~ Randy

Randy, that is the beauty of a excellent jazz band. Concerts were made to explore new themes and rhythms. It is fun to hear a band feed off each other and move in new directions. These really highlighted that. Enjoy your weekend Randy

Chris, thanks for dropping by again. Columbia loves bootleg series ala Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and others. I always enjoy how they change up their songs.

What an amazing archive of Miles Davis' music Steve - I never really got the point of live jazz recordings, to me it always seemed a studio medium but so much must have transpired live on stage in the interaction between musicians and if that comes through on those discs they must really be revelatory. Glad you were able to save so many of those, a treasure trove indeed. Have a great rest of the week, cheers!

For me the live jazz is very interesting. You can hear them taking these performances in different directions. It just takes one person to shift what is being played and suddenly something new and wonderful is happening. These are treasures in my collection Doug

So much great stuff. The start-and-stop studio takes on the Freedom Jazz Dance set do try my patience a bit. The Bootleg #6 with Coltrane is godlike.

Michael, always such a pleasure to hear from you. Now if only I could describe this music as well as you I would be set. These box sets truly bring me great joy. It takes you to a good place emotionally to hear this incredible music. Enjoy your weekend Michael. Steve

Hey Steve - That box set from December of 1965 with T. Williams and H. Hancock sounds really fabulous. I really dig Tony Williams being a one time stick man myself :)

I did not know you were a drummer George. I could use pencils to create a good beat on my desk. 65 was an awesome year for Davis. A lot of creativity with all those young players

Love the series. Miles Davis and Coltrane what a a dynamic duo. Would love just to sit and listen to all those sounds. It would be a marathon but worth it. Did you ever try ???:). Love your channel.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91474 жыл бұрын
I never have the time for a marathon listening lol. I use to take these in the car as I traveled to play for long periods of time. Doesn’t work as well with flying now lol. Davis had a talent for picking the right players. Thanks for taking time to watch. Steve
