Marble-maker and flameworker Miles Parker shares how to create whole worlds in tiny glass spheres using a variety of techniques. Get an insider’s view during this live stream from his class Borosilicate Marbles on February 13. See the final work starting at 32:41.
When not teaching at The Studio, Parker likes to experiment with techniques such as fusing and slumping, stained glass, leaded and copper foil, as well as some furnace work. His glass marbles look like they hold far away galaxies. www.cmog.org/bio/miles-parker
Take a look into a class at The Studio and watch as internationally renowned faculty demonstrate for their classes ranging from furnace sculpting to flameworking to any other variety of glassblowing techniques. To register for classes, visit www.cmog.org/programs/classes

Dear, thank you for this demonstration of your art. Is it necessary to encased the opal in the tube instead of press the glass directly on the sphere, to avoid breaking ? Is it a 10 mm tube not thick wall ? Could I try this with a mega minor ? Thank you for your help.
@corningmuseumofglass
@corningmuseumofglass 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, we asked Miles if he could answer this question and here's his answer: "Encasement is necessary to avoid overheating/bubbling the opal. In this demonstration I used 9.5mm heavy wall, a mega-minor should be sufficient." Thanks for watching!

excellent demo. i learned a lot. however, the cameramen that film these demos are not approaching it for the vantage point of the viewer. long shots are worthless. all shots should be closeup. filming should only be on the side where the work is being done. otherwise, we can't see what is being done. every corning video i watch has these issues.
