Destination Adventure

Күн бұрын

This is a bonus explore that I was able to do during my last trip. Driving along, I noticed a broken old cabin below a cliff along the highway. I stopped to take a look and noticed a large culvert going under the highway about 300 feet down. I knew the culvert was not meant for walking, as the highway runs along the side of a mountain, so I decided to take a hike down and check things out. As my suspicion predicted, the culvert was actually an entrance to a mine shaft. What I didn't expect was how extensive the tunnel system was. I walked for more than an hour underground and only saw a portion of tunnel systems. This was my first really extensive explore underground and it was a real pleasure for me. I hope you all enjoy this.

Dustin that was great. I tried to google that mine but couldn’t find anything. If you wouldn’t mind can you get back to us if you find a name etc. Couple things. Consider leaving a note on the motor home indicating where you are case you have an accident. Carry a small pack with some water or a life straw. A bag of peanuts will keep you going for a long time. A spare flashlight and a space. Blanket for warmth. And a small collapsible shovel We worry about you dude. Just want you to stay safe. Thanks again. John and Angela.

LOVED THIS!!! I always love caves but having MS, I will not ever be able to explore these wonderful sights as you have done😒Sooo thank you for that❤️I have friends that have explored caves & they always advise that you shouldn’t explore on your own in case of an emergency, you should always carry a pistol as sometimes you run face to face into an animal & since you are dealing with limited space, they panic & can charge you. Sooo please be careful & cautious, but please keep exploring these places as I love them & you for doing it for those of us who can’t... but PLEASE BE SAFE❤️

Right on, I worked in those little jack pot mines for years and that was a great adventure you had. Everything excavated on the upper right of tunnel was the gold baring vein, the tracks were old pipes the miners used to deliver compressed air and water. The straps supporting the roof were held in by 6' bolts to support the ground over head and look like they were from the 80's. cheers

It's amazing at times how little disturbance of a rock face in a mine can lead to a local cave in. Sometimes all it takes is a loud voice or the removal of a handful of loose rock. Be extremely careful exploring old mines as many people have died in them when something unexpected happens. Even just walking in the water can release pockets of gas that are enough to render a person unconscious or dead.

*This was very interesting to watch.* The entire time though I was thinking about the mine explorers that have died from disturbing underground water. Aparently, toxic gases are known to seep out from the earth to get trapped underneath the water in these mines and build up a toxic gas bubbles. When the top layer or skim of the water is broken the gases escape almost instantly killing the unfortunate person that took the step and anyone around them. I don't know the exact circumstances or conditions necessary for this to occur. Regardless please beware of underground water conditions.

I went to Dolarama a couple weeks ago and they have super bright LED bar flashlights(not sure how many lumens) 2 bucks! even came with batteries. They only take 2 triple A batteries and are super Bright. Sure you could even tape a few of them together for burn your eyes out bright! Worth checking out for the price.
