People who turn others in and don’t even know the laws should be fined for bothering law enforcement. In my experience, I’ve had to explain to the local police on two occasions the laws while producing my 107. At first it was cool explaining and educating cops but the more I’ve thought about it, it’s not my job. Luckily it’s been quite awhile since I’ve been harassed. Also, I prefer night flying and use firehouse ARC V and the newer LT…..so when I’m up there at 395 feet in my legal airspace….you can’t hear me but you can see me for miles.

As someone who flies a drone and also flies in small private planes in Alaska, I can relate to both sides. On one hand I'd like to fly my drone wherever I want and film whatever I want. On the other hand I realize that even a 249 gram drone going through a plastic windshield of a Cessna at a critical stage of flight (takeoff/landing) or a small helicopter hitting it at over 100mph can get people killed or at least injured. There is a saying that "regulations in aviation are written in blood" and unfortunately not too many people that have a drone have appreciation for this. The drones got regulated because people flying them were completely ignorant and were doing stupid crap. I've seen people flying a drone in a park right under the approach path of a Class C airport and they didn't understand what the big deal was. So now we get regulated.
@michaelmatthews6421
@michaelmatthews6421 3 жыл бұрын
Regulations in aviation are written in blood cause of the deaths. Drone flights have cause literally zero deaths. Literally! Granted some are stupid with their safety when it comes to drones, but same can be said with guns, and yet very little regulation there. They are making rules for "what if" situations, not actual situations. There has been no risk assessment done on this. Technically if you jump you are in FAA airspace. Think about that

When you look in windows resource monitor nothing suspicious is going on. They might get a few low res thumbnails, but that would be about it. Dji want to be a respected professional drone manufacturer worldwide, and they're doing really well in all sectors including the film industry. Doubt they'd want a lawsuit that would seriously damage their business worldwide. Anyway, the national security services in all countries will no doubt be all over this already, and if they found anything suspicious going on imports would be banned instantly, and this is not happening!

@@RailFlicks DJI drones save photos regularly during the flight. Whether you take pictures or film or not, at the same time. That DJI is flagged as a security risk is because these images that are saved in a folder that you really have to look for to find, can be uploaded to DJI. Personally, I sometimes fly around outside military areas and nuclear power plants and then always point my nose at the drone away from the areas. In Sweden you can get heavy fines or thrown into jail, if you take pictures of a military base with a drone.

Ever been zooming through a street and a small animal runs out and you can't do anything but hope for the best? Well, that's an aircraft hitting a drone except it could have far worse consequences. Knowing these things like air traffic patterns, weather, etc. is something all drone pilots should know or study, and IMO is not a crazy requirement to require drone pilots to know. That being said, the chance at something running out in front of you, much like a drone getting hit, is small in retrospect. Glad the agents were kind and all got sorted out. Great video and hope many follow suit to register their drones and get Part 107 if they are for profit. Always visited Treasure Island growing up and love the area down there!

So my tax dollars are going towards some FAA agent sitting at home, watching KZbin videos, and filing complaints for actions showing “violations” that caused no issues. This would be like the police sending someone a ticket after they posted a video of themselves jaywalking across a remote road in the middle of nowhere. Such a complete waste of time and resources. These drone restrictions are really getting out of hand. The FAA is acting as though a drone is a 17000 lb aircraft with the potential of killing hundreds of people with the slightest mistake. The are far more dangerous actions that are legal throughout the U.S. If the government is truly concerned about potential accidents, why don’t they place the same types of restrictions on vehicles, guns, etc.?

so when some newbie you tube hero flies his drone into the engine of one of those 17000 pound air craft you speak of, forcing it to crash, and wiping out an entire city block, along with the people in it, I would say somebody needs to police the industry. yes it is extremely possible. They have shut down air ports, shut down flight for life, and forest fire fighting operations, as well as hampered rescue and emergency operations. I am a legal part 107 owner operator of multiple drones. I do not disagree with the actions, and reasons for the actions of the FAA. The FAA is increasing some restrictions, and are relaxing some as well. All for the good of public safety, commerce, and to bring about respectful behavior by all drone or UAV operators. If they can catch some idiot, doing illegal activity, and filming themselves in the process, more power to them.

@@johnwood406 I am not saying there should be zero regulations, I am saying that the regulations should be commensurate to the actual risk. Bottom line, there should not be government paid employees spending my tax dollars to watch videos of people NOT causing any accidents, and then punishing them worse than someone who rear-ends me at a stoplight. Pushes it past it's signal abilities, as well as it's safe flight abilities. I could go on and on what he has done wrong. But he has all these idiots patting him on the back,. What kind of signal is he sending to present, and future drone operators. If the FAA, doesn't crack down on it, drones will become illegal to almost everyone but big corporations. @@Toglander you in no other words are an idiot if you think my argument is for more regulation. I am for the FAA enforcing the laws currently in effect, so they might not make it harder for the responsible operators such as myself. I don't need the govt to hold my hand, unfortunately there are plenty of people whom do. Look for your self through the hundreds of videos on you tube of people doing really stupid, irresponsible, and selfish things with drones. Each get a ton of thumbs up and subscribers, that makes them money, and entices the next hero to do something even more risky. So now, due to these ignorants, the drones, and cameras, I have paid over 30000 dollars for, will be illegal, or will have to be modified in the next 18 to 30 months. It's because of these idiots, doing stupid , harmful things, I, and yes you, have to pay the FAA to surf you tube, and try to cull these heroes. Because of their idiotic actions, the FAA has decided to let anybody with a smart phone see the exact GPS location of the operator. Which, the drone operator will either have to buy, and have a certified expert install it, and it must also have a no signal no launch module installed as well. You also have the right to simply discard your now illegal drone, and purchase a new drone with the equipment that was mandated already in it. You see, the FAA already knows what drones I have, because I legally registered them, and have a part 107 license. This infers that I must obey the laws, or loose everything. This new rule, will either end up with people getting harassed by total strangers, or drone thefts will go through the roof. Why? because you guessed it, some idiots need the Govt, to hold their hand, and tell them, "no No Jimmy, you can't fly it in the clouds" or where is your drone? what do you mean 3 miles away? you can't see it, but your still flying it? Or don't fly it outside of the neighbor's windows, or over the dam, power plant, or city water res. All these actions are being done as we speak with drones, and a huge damage potential is at stake. So if the FAA doesn't stop them, then soon only Big companies like Amazon, energy, and utility companies will be able to legally fly drones in this country. I am pissed with over reach? you are dam right I am, but I would rather keep what I have, and not loose it due to a you tube hero.

They are not rushing to take down all these content creators but if they are contacted, they have to see whats up, like a cop getting called on some bs call. Tbh it is not difficult to get your 107, there are many advantages of it beyond commercial use. Hopefully they adapt to streaming and realize that this shouldnt be so vague. If you are streaming some footage of your hobby flights and being safe, then they shouldnt bother (tbh I dont think they want to) and focus on those using it for business commercial use, such as surveying, or something that would need an exemption waiver to do, like filming close over public crowds.

The problem isn't the drone, it's the fact that it is being used for commercial purposes (money from youtube) therefore you need a 107.

I see that many are complaining here but the rules really are not that bad. I am from Europe and we are switching to a new system which ditched the commercial vs non-commercial categorisation and bases everything on UAV weight (which IMO makes more sense). But... if you fly any drone this high and this far as shown in the video, you really should study all the things which are covered by the Part 107 test anyways. And as you said, the price is not that bad at all, plus if people complain about you flying but you tell them you have a license they just usually let you be.

You should file a FOIA and get all the information on how they got your numbers and all the emails that were sent with your name in it. Then post the video for us to see how they collected the information on you. I wonder if the FAA agents see your video, reports it themselves to themselves, then gets a warrant to get your contact information and then they call you themselves. I’m curious to how Government employees do this.

There is no way to authenticate anything in this world without a cryptographic challenge and response. They might be able to "flash their credentials" in a trustful way if they sent you an email from a .gov email domain. (It would be better if it were also cryptographically signed from that agency, but it feels like I'd be asking for the world.)
