Are you excited for the new FTC rules on resort fees & concert surcharges?
@HummingbirdInAHurricane4 күн бұрын
For me personally I'm already well-familiar with sneaky fees to the point where I've just always done my research by habit so it's kind of whatever for me...............but the biggest winner in all of this are Vegas first-timers and newbies. This ruling is definitely about to be beneficial to them.
@thatShadowKat4 күн бұрын
I'm more excited about Entertainment tickets since those have turned into the most egregious, like you said sometimes nearly doubling the ticket price. But it's also a point where I either find a cheaper seat or don't go altogether. The industry flat out did it to themselves...and when the government gets involved rarely anything good will come from it, but time will tell.
@billshillingbrg71454 күн бұрын
I always wondered how they got away with this. How is this NOT false advertising?
@Mike891384 күн бұрын
I am thrilled about it. I think the price you get quoted when you book a room should be what you are paying at check in. I have worried for a while that the resorts are chasing people away with these tactics. I want people to talk about how much fun they had in Las Vegas not how they got milked.

I HATE the Vegas "LET" fee on concert tickets! LIVE ENTERTAINMENT TAX! That's what we used to call the "ticket" in the old days.

As a long time Vegas visitor I am finally getting fed up with all the greed. The food prices are out of control, and now you can’t walk anywhere to find cheaper because all the sidewalks are weaving round and round constant construction. As a gambler, I have better options. I don’t take a vacation to be aggravated the whole time trying to get somewhere.
@pete696963 күн бұрын
I totally agree with you. I use to go to vegas 6 to 10x a year now I just take my money to other places. They are purposely squeezing out middle class people imo

@@pete69696 I am far from a low roller, but $15 for a slice of pizza is beyond unreasonable. They will have a reckoning on this when we stop going, but the prices will never go back down on food and drink. They killed the city for gamblers.

One of the reasons some of the old themed slots are gone is you have to remember that any copywriter material has too be licensed. If the license ends it can not be used by the slot machine company or casino. That’s why TV movie or celebrities themed are usually on the floor for limited times.

I remember the MGM took down the Lion head at the entrance because many Asian folks said walking into the mouth was like being eaten by the lion and bad luck. Also, I think there was a bit of a yellow brick road theme inside when it opened. Additionally, the casino floor seemed massive at MGM.
@PaintingandExercise4 күн бұрын
I remember being told that the Asian players thought that the entrance into the Lion's mouth was bad luck. The Yellow Brick Road theme was included with Dorothy going to Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz. Hence, the MGM building was built with green glass to make it the Emerald City.

Regarding fees for concert tickets, the ~other~ crappy part of not knowing the amount of the fees up-front is that once you select your tickets, you have a countdown timer (usually 20 min, I think) to make your purchase or the tickets go back into the main pool. That's another pressure on consumers to just click through despite the high fees if they don't want to lose the particular seats they picked out. It's ridiculous.

So any international Vegas tourists who wanted to enjoy the iconic Bellagio fountains on Halloween, Thanksgiving, National Finals Rodeo or the Christmas holidays, cannot access the sidewalk in front of the Bellagio due to construction activity related to Formula 1, a 3 day weekend race. This is true insanity.

Thanks for another great episode. Yeah the full disclosure needs to be the RULE. I also think that it should show up that way in the search engines. Give me the price with taxes and fees and all the BS in there. Then as a consumer I can decide if it's worth it. I think there will be a lot of people that will either not book some of these places now or look for cheaper options. The whole "Resort Fee" is BS in the highest order. It's like saying "Ok you get the room and you can walk down the hallway and use the elevator but there is a charge to breath the air". On another note I can't wait to see how many World Of Hyatt points they are going to charge for the Venetian. Will it be a total ripoff and end up being just a property to earn points or will there be some actual value in it. Stay tuned...

Some of them on the bonus game would feature an image of this or that Playmate; usually in a bath with strategic soap bubbles.

Update on the Venetian tier match - if you booked a trip before you matched, you'll still be held to the resort fees, regardless of new status. That was a shocker for me when I checked in the other day. Bad enough the match only lasts October to end of February, leaving little time to re-up for next year. They really botched this. Fortunately my host there took the resort fees off (my play was solid) but something people who tier matched should keep an eye out for if they are visiting soon.

Venetian being owned by private equity and partnering with Hyatt will be an uphill climb. Hyatt isn't a bad brand, but they got a black eye from the Rio relationship and I think Venetian owner Apollo Global Mgmt. will end up offending clients and cheapen the experience Venetian was known for under Adelson and will end up a net negative for both companies.

Now UNLV just needs a transformational, iconic coach like the Colorado Buffaloes have Deion Sanders to make UNLV a juggernaut in the near future. Vegas is always supposed to go big or stay home after all, and having that sort of coach would work wonders for recruiting and establishing UNLV's name recognition nationally. 🙂 I'll have to try that Shake Your Booty slot machine next time I'm in town. 😅 Can't wait for the Rio catch-up episode. 🙂 Sometimes when I have really awful Seasonal Affect Disorder flare-ups like I've been having a lot in recent years (I'm planning on moving to Vegas in 2027).........I'll binge Vegas IRL's resort walkthroughs, and he was just at the Rio and the entire Ipanema half of the resort (sans the sportsbook) looks stunning and I can't imagine how much better it looks with fresh eyes. I'm waiting with bated breath for Dreamscape to announce their master plan for Masquerade Village and the Masquerade Tower room renovation renderings: they said Phase II would commence by the end of this year and we only have a week and a half remaining in 2024 so, bring it on Dreamscape! 🤩

@@bobbowie9350 The original point I was trying to make (sorry if I didn't articulate it well enough 🙂)...............is that the Colorado Buffaloes were a team that had its share of highlights in the past but suffered a nearly two decade-long streak of irrelevance between the early 2000's and a couple of years ago. But ever since Deion Sanders has became head coach there: it has completely changed the culture there and has been quite a shot in the arm to their recruiting, persuading players from other teams to enter the transfer portal and come to them, national coverage, etc. A single hire could genuinely prove to be cataclysmic and completely transform UNLV's profile in the near future too. Winning a bowl for the first time in a while is a great place to start.

Very sad it closed suddenly. I was going to go this weekend. I’ll still go out to see it.

@@Milestomemories I just drove to Primm day before yesterday to visit Buffalo Bills. An employee there told me that they've heard all the rumors but they're not true. Buffalo Bills is good, Whiskey Pete's is only closed temporarily for some renovations. So I guess we'll see where it goes!
