Can you name another property that does such a good job running $400k /day in the red?
@josephferrara630911 сағат бұрын
Stayed at the FB back in September. Loved our stay. Lots to do on property and didn't have a bad meal all stay. Yes the vibe is more sterile than other themed casinos. Maybe adding more neon colors to give it that Miami vibe would work. Hopefully the arena going next door is the one that wins out so there is more foot traffic to the area. You will have the hotel/entertainment complex going in front of the convention center and the arena next door to bring more people to the area. Went down to the Bellagio/Cosmo part of the strip one night and it was almost too busy. Couldn't walk the strip.

Back 20+ years ago I planed a trip to Vegas just for myself. There were a lot of hotel deals. One day I woke up to realize that I was booked into 4 different hotels at $49.99 a night. Then I got the biggest deal, the Venetian for $99! I always wanted to stay there. I booked it and cancelled all the other reservations. I got into that beautiful room that night and was on a cloud. Then the next morning at 7AM it happened! There was a reason for the deal. My room was right across from where they were building a new tower and construction went from 7AM to 7PM every day. Welcome to Las Vegas! Welcome to Las Vegas!

@@Diesel0807 Yeah it was Sunday night through Thursday night. Weekends were a total ripoff even back then. You could get a room on the strip back then for what you pay in resort fees now. The last time I was there in 2005 I stayed at the Flamingo and I knew it was over when I saw a charge on my bill $7 a day for water. I mean like shower and flush the toilet water and not a bottle of water. WTF! I just thought, "It's over Johnny!"

Totally agree with Mark about the noise. I have had that happen to me on a trip before when I stayed at the Sandman Hotel in Vancouver a few years ago. The construction noise along with the traffic outside was enough to get me fully awake at 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday when I wanted to sleep especially given the fact that I had arrived into Vancouver at 11:30 the previous night on an Amtrak train from Seattle. After I complained, the hotel gave me a free stay along with a $50 food/beverage credit (in Canadian dollars). That was an awful experience & I really hope that individual who stayed at MGM Grand & had to deal with that noise got compensated well.

Thanks as always MTM for the great info!! The casinos at Primm have definitely been hurt by the Native American Casinos in California. Knew people in California that used to drive up early in the morning to gamble at Primm. They stayed there all day and then drove back that nite without even getting a room. The Casinos in California changed that big dynamic. The Casinos at Primm are good properties having been in rooms for work assignments at both Whiskey Petes and Buffalo Bills. No such work experience at Primadonna with their rooms at all. My impression as a non-gambler (except for sports betting) is that you get a better run for your gambling dollar overall in Primm from listening to friends who have played there.

It's funny you talk about the ATM fees. I was just at planet Hollywood last week and I made it withdrawal from one of their ATMs. Now I I was totally prepared for the $12 service charge but being that I'm Canadian and I was using a Canadian bank card they posted a very confusing message where they wanted to charge me 12% currency conversion fee versus just my bank charging the actual exchange rate. It would have been an extra $200 charge on $1,000 withdrawal that is criminal. And I guarantee many people have been duped by that confusing option.

Primm initially benefitted from deep pockets and, thus, proper maintenance...............but in retrospect it was always a tall order for Primm to sustain itself given how remote and California tourist-reliant it already was, and especially now with the elevated gas prices and well after the deep pockets dried up and these resorts have essentially been left to rot overall. It's a shame but unfortunately isn't the least bit surprising. Primm is basically going the way of Atlantic City in its failures to diversify and modernize.
@johnchambers852843 минут бұрын
I agree who ever is making the decision at Primm to close the already upgraded property with the attractions that could make someone want to stay and play there is crazy. As you mentioned the expansion of Native American casinos in California defiantly hurt Primm and eventually some Las Vegas resorts. But if you have something unique at your casino hotel you have an advantage versus just being another casino hotel to stay and play at. Otherwise the only option you have would be to be less expensive by a large amount compared to staying in Las Vegas.

For Primm they should just give all the tenants (retail shops and restaurants) free rent and only charge them a % of their sales. The reason why it's so dead is there's no reason to go there. If they have tenants maybe people will stop there and spend some money. Back when Primm was busy I would stop off there on the drive from SoCal to Vegas and shop, eat, and gamble. Now I don't stop at all and just continue on to Vegas....

Regarding the lack of money for the freeways, perhaps they could consider a dirty word, "tolls". The state I live in has made use of private toll construction more and more in recent years because the DMV simply does not have enough money. Private companies can get roads built quickly, and they do take good care of them afterwards. You do need a good negotiator for the contracts however. Unless the state creates some type of EV charging tax, or EV fleet tax, the road revenue issue will continue to get worse.

111 West 57th in NYC is built on a plot that is 20621 square feet. That's a smidge under 0.5 acres. And it's 1426 feet high. So I guess it's technically possible to do a 400 foot hotel on 0.6 acres. Long as you don't want parking, or a porte cochere . Where are you putting taxis and Ubers? It will be interesting if they actually ever start building it. I'm not betting on that ever happening.

I walked into Fontainebleau for the first time last week and found it to be stale and unremarkable. Not that is was MUCH better, but I felt a bit more energy in the Sahara, another place I'd never been before. I'd certainly like to try a couple of the food options over at FB next trip, though. As it pertains to the quick Vegas trip on a budget prompt, keep an eye out for happy hour dining specials (they're all over the place, especially at Miracle Mile shops) and even in some of the nicer places. You can have a beer and the steak n' eggs at Ellis Island for a hair under $20. Assuming you stay on-Strip, go into the convenience store between Battista's and Stagedoor to stock up. I grabbed a couple 16 oz. High Life cans for $3.00; the Flamingo is maybe another five minute walk from there. You can absolutely get away with $150-$200 a day!

Since when does the casino make it easy to send your money out the door? There has to be some kind of crazy fee making it worth their while.
