Yeah, this is SUPER early for Milieu recordings and that Boards influence was much more prevalent at the time. It's funny now, to look back, because I haven't really listened to Boards with any amount of regularity since about 2006, but the very formative Milieu stuff has sorta etched those things in stone. As such, I'm not super into the earlier records now, they feel very 'grasping' at various approaches while I was free-falling through learning machines, mixing, drum programming, synthesis as I went, and they don't really possess the personality I think my later work developed. It's like being a teenager versus being an adult - you can't actually have much to say because you just haven't lived in the world for very long, you don't have a very deep well of experiences to reference in your expressive work - so when I look back to very early things I did, that naivete is all I really hear. I'm still happy to keep those recordings available, however, because people still enjoy them in a more topical way, and they're still capable gateway drugs to my later, more developed, recordings.
