The year AD 238 was a complex, catastrophic (and, according to contemporary popular historian Herodian of Antioch, a really exciting) year in Roman Imperial history, a harbinger of the disastrous generation that followed. We revisit the events of that year, including no fewer than six Emperors and an epochal riot in Rome itself.
