I came across the same problem with having arrows long enough. I solved it by using an easton axis 5mm shaft (34 - 1/4 in 260 spine) with a halfout insert. I then stuck a skylon paragon 400spine inside the arrow and sealed it with epoxy. On the outer layer of the arrow, I used an XX75 2016 and again, sealed with epoxy. A 250gr point with a pin inserted into the paragon and a beiter hunter pin nock will allow for 36" draw. I do not have a spine measurer, but I can say that the arrow is very stiff and does not bend much. Suspended 28" apart, with a 35lbs dumbbell hanging in the middle, it has about 1/2inch of deflection. I shoot a 114lbs@34" monarq without the outer XX75 and the arrows fly straight with no kick. You can probably shoot 150+ comfortably @36" with the above arrow combination

Manchu thumb shooting is much harder with the Manchu ring

Thanks for the review. This is one of my favorite bows. May I ask a question about your technique? It seems that you are putting your index finger on the ring rather than doing the standard Manchu lock (at least as far as I know it). Is this correct? Can you explain what exactly you are doing with the index finger and how that compares to the standard lock (i.e. index finger over the thumb)?

Great video. Since these Manchu bows need heavier gpp such 16 gpp or more, wouldn't a 2000 grain arrow be optimally be paired with something like a 125 lb draw Manchu bow?

It would be great to know the dynamic efficiency of such a combo. I think it could reach 75-80 % even, with probably upwards of 180 J of KE.

Love the vid! Do you think the bow could be shot Mediterranean style and over the knuckle instead of the thumb?
@michaldante97972 жыл бұрын
I don’t see reason why it could not be possible. Better question is why ? Do you have comfortable full draw in meditteranean style/draw longer then 32 inches ? If now then it’s probably waste of great efficiency with this bow.
@HistoricalWeapons2 жыл бұрын
yes it has been done no problem
@alexanderflack5662 жыл бұрын
@@michaldante9797 Hmm...I've drawn to 33" or so comfortably with Mediterranean, so I might be able to hit about 34" if I try. I would need arrows that long, though, and if I'm trying it, I might need them in 2000+ gn.

There are standard methods of shooting but you can still use Khatra, in fact if the arrow is super heavy and stiff it is beneficial to use side Khatra, much easier if the arrow going 120 fps

Side khtra for super heavy arrows cuz easy khatra

I actually release straight for my horsebow. I release the exact direction I pull. It may appear that I do a sideways torque with my drawing hand but I don’t. After I release straight my arm just goes sideways. I don’t do Manchu archery but I believe that style purposely tries to pluck string sideways at release because they can’t khatra that kind of bow

I'm Indonesian, I'm about 160cm. Slightly taller for the average man in my granduncles time. My long draw technique only draws to 30"; 32" if I force it. I'm guessing the 36" draw is either an assumption based on the length of antique arrows. Or a new standard for taller modern men so they know how "long" a "longdraw" is
