Why not give National Guard enforcement powers too? They’re already deployed on the border. NG could arrest and turn over to Border Patrol for processing. Would seem like a good way to deal with the gap in coverage.

The U.S. government should utilize all of the resources available to secure the borders. I am sure there are hundreds of veterans that could be used for tasks that would free up officers to be in the field. Such as monitoring cameras, dispatching, office work, etc.

Not to sound barbaric, ( or ignorant), why can’t the USA have a type of marked strip of land ,( 50 yards wide for example), fenced off, full of land mines along the border? Wouldn’t this be more effective and cheaper? These explosives would be “smart land mines “ that could be rapidly deployed and recovered. This sounds like a no-nonsense strategy to me.
