One US sub accident happened on 8 January 2005 when the USS San Francisco impacted an underwater seamount at a high speed of 30+ knots. Extensive damage, but fortunately the sub was not lost and able to surface. Some of the crew were thrown 20 feet from the impact. 97 of the 137 crew were injured in one degree or another with some so severely, they needed urgent evacuation to a shore facility. Unfortunately, one crew member died from head injuries.... The impact was in the Caroline Island area. The underwater mountain was not clearly shown on any of the subs navigation charts.... Perhaps a factor was the massive 26 December 2004 Boxer Day earthquake that devasted Indonesia with both the earthquake and the tsunami. The magnitude 9+ earthquake lasted the longest in recorded history for 8 to 10 minutes, triggered earthquakes as far away as Alaska, and changed the tilt of the earth.... The point of mentioning the massive earthquake, that happened 14 days prior to the collision, is if the massive sea floor change in the earthquake area, caused other parts of the Indonesian sea floor to change also. This would mean the subs navigation charts were now dangerously inaccurate. Yes, the epicenter was over 3000 miles away from the collision, but the massive size of the earthquake and the geological activity of that ring-of-fire area, seems to suggest that. Did the seafloor of the collision area, rise several hundred feet as a result of the earthquake? Did a new and unexpected shallow depth cause this accident?

these are frightening but to me, the Scorpion submarine tragedy seems the most perplexed I have my own thoughts about that I was 4 years old when it happened but then again 1968 was a weird year, to begin with again to me I read all that I have about that everything I've read still sends ice sheets all over me

submarines......these kind of boats do have a high malfunction rate, expensive to build, beyond rescued from total loss. yes, exactly irreplaceable in terms of functionality, probably highest non combat causality in navy around the world. in my personal opinion, this weapon should be retire and replace by ai as soon as possible...... and you forget that japanese submarine crush with container cargo ship about 2 months ago, that one is lucky, i been told no one die.

Where is INS Arihant?
@danydash316
@danydash316 3 жыл бұрын
Why INS Arihant? It is in fully operational mode with no sailors dead on it by any accident. It was a kilo class russian sub under Indian naval service that blew up some years ago
@F139
@F139 3 жыл бұрын
@@danydash316 why not INS Arihant? What happened when it flooded ?
@danydash316
@danydash316 3 жыл бұрын
@@F139was it a major accident? Or is it even verified? The claim of the accident is like the rear hatch over the propulsion system was left open by mistake well INS Arihant is based on a russian hull so it doesn't have any hatch over the propulsion system infact none of any other navy has such hatch over their propulsion system except for france who did this recently to have better refueling for their nuclear reactor while in India the submarine has to cut to refuel the nuclear reactor. Also Indian government or Military doesn't talks about it's nuclear programme openly, you will never know exact numbers of Indian operational nukes or not even the exact numbers of nuclear capable delivery systems. Also India's policy makes it clear for the civilian government to have complete control over it's nuclear arsenal so an accident with a nuclear ballistic missile submarine cannot be hidden from the government of India no matter what because that's the standard operating procedure and if government knew they are bound to respond according to right to information of the public. The major Indian submarine accident was the kilo class sub that completely blew up off the Indian coast.

@@F139 also the cost of such projects make it absolutely clear that atleast it can have a hatch open warning or flood warning system. These things are basic since Indian navy has been building it's vessels for decades now
