Ugh, I still remember the day when we were issued the new PASGT helmets in November 1984, it’s heavy as hell and it takes some fine tuning the suspension webbing and sweat band. It would often give the wearer a headache until we found the sweet spot in adjusting things. One way to tighten the suspension yoke when it’s maxed out and won’t get tighter, just twist the Velcro tab a few times until it takes up the slack then reconnect the Velcro tab. We always used gutted OD green 550 chord and made 4 retention yokes as you see in this video, otherwise you’ll constantly lose the Camo band. I was an Infantryman so it was common to ding our helmets during daily taskings. I also wore the PASGT helmet in both the Gulf War and OIF 1.5 and my love for the PASGT helmet never improved, lol. That foam donut really helps if you can’t swap out the suspension system with modern foam pads. Thankfully I kept my war helmets in the same state as I wore them, I had some nice friends at the CIF in Baumholder, I made sure a couple young Officers were able to keep their war helmet as a souvenir without any charges going to the Soldier, most of us career Soldiers try to keep our war helmet since it means a lot to us, each scrape, scratch and stain has a story, some good, some not.

I'm a Military Headgear collector, and I now own two of these PASGT Helmets. I also wore the PASGT for 2 of my 4 Tours in the Iraq War. I agree with all your points in regards to it being a very good Helmet for Prepper's and Collectors of Militaria. Super great vid. Above the Best. Ty.

So a bump helmet in the first couple minutes refers to helmets with no ballistic protection. The ACH and high cuts were also built to be more easily integrated with comms and NVGs. The ear pieces and front visor do make the kpots harder to use with different equipment.

For the love of god don’t clean Kevlar helmets with chemicals, you aren’t even supposed to submerge them in water. Kevlar is very sensitive to chemicals and it will deteriorate very rapidly

I did a full pad and strap retrofit and added a Railband PM for nvg and "arc" railing. Best part it goes over the helmet cover.

Before Covid I bought 15 pasgt from my computer recycling store they were police trade-ins medium and large for $20 a helmet in new condition

Ironically many tests have shown that many old steel helmets actually offer better protection than modern kevlar helmets.. A great example is the French ww1 Adrian helmet which recently tested better than all current US service helmets in fragmentation protection and small arms fire, it especially outperformed everything in top down fragmentation, one of the more common head injuries in a modern battlefield... Now im not saying go get a ww1 Adrian helmet or any steel helmet for that matter BUT there are many steel helmets that do outperform kevlar helmets in terms of fragmentation and shrapnel protection, they also are FAR more likely to deflect a round into a glancing blow instead of a penetration. Even the m1 helmet has been shown to be capable of stopping handgun rounds at point blank range. Honestly my ideal helmet would be a kevlar helmet or thermoplastic from the ECH helmet in the shape of the PASGT helmet but then with a 1.5mm to 2mm hardened steel shell or 2mm to 2.5mm titanium shell molded over it. It might be a little heavy but with modern aramid fiber and thermoplastics you can get level3a protection for about half the thickness and weight of older kevlar so it could end up being about the weight of the pasgt for about double to triple the protection, I'd love to see something like that tested but unfortunately no one is ever gonna make something like that...

I know of two people personally. That have been shot in the head wearing this helmet the PASGT within 25 yards with 5.56 and walked away from it. One of them highly documented he was a police officer in Orlando Florida.

I have the old one it's 4 lbs and $100, the new Israeli version is 2 lbs and $200. Covering ears also affects hearing of sounds.

I got a Polish WZ 2000 helmet it's similar to the PASGT but the sides are a little wider.

WZ 2000's are good helmets! I've added pads and a night vision mount on mine. You can also wear comms with it.

The PASGT might be on it's final legs. The ACH garbage will be the next old guy thing to take it's place. It has a resume though, even if it's hard to accept it for some of ya'll still in the fight. Mr Mich will work with you though when you feel alone. Give him a chance. You can jerry rig him into a fast if need be.

I have an XL PASGT and an XL ACH. The ACH can be worn all day, after a half hour wearing the PASGT my head feels like it's in a Vice.

The ach I purchased at my local surplus store was actually cheaper than the pasgts they had. I even looked online (before covid) pasgts were more expensive than achs. I don't know were you find pasgts for under $100.

Where do you find an ACH for as cheap as $100? Cheapest I can find is $130 without the suspension system

@@jaredlavoie635 I purchased my ACH for $110 dollars at my local surplus store. It didn't have the nvg mount and it was missing some pads. I added the nvg mount and upgraded the pads (they were old and worn out). The pasgts were 120-130 dollars (depending on the condition). The conditions of the helmets were very decent compared to what I saw online. The owner figured that since the pasgts were older it means that they're more collectible. I found out from a friend (who is in the national guard for my state) the guard was removing the older achs (ones issued when they first came out). This was in 2019 before all of this shit happened. I'm sure the helmets are more expensive now.

The pasgt is probably the best helmet invented you don't need to add your sped sf side rails or any of that shit you have good protection and I wear it every day it's like nothing on my head anymore

Fun fact: if you need a replacement liner for PASGT helmets and don't want to move to pads, the Chinese QGF03 suspension is still being produced today and is compatible with PASGT helmet iirc. Plus it comes with a 3 point strap as opposed to the PASGT 2 point.

Pasgt will not stop a round in most cases. As a civillian militia, when will you be in a situation where you need fragmentation protection and not ballistic protection.

The most common round you will get hit by in a civilian situation is handgun rounds, a PASGT that hasn’t deteriorated will stop 9mm FMG from a handgun and from a long barrel SMG if you get lucky

How do you put on the bracket plate on the helmet? Is there a hole in the helmet where you have to put the norotos bracket plate in?

On the front is a screw that held in the old suspension system. You use that.
