Eric thanks for the parlor tour, when I was younger I milked in a double ten with 475 cow (plus sick or treated cows). It interesting to watch how others do it. We always fed grain in the parlor, use plain water to wash, and always had lots of poop to clean up. I think not feeding them on the parlor cuts down on pooping. I like how clean and efficient your system is. Thanks for sharing
@xMarf
@xMarf 4 жыл бұрын
Most of the pooping it's from how you treat the cow. If you yell at the too much or push them they will poop everywhere. I do the relives milking on our farm and it´s notoriously different how much the cows poop between the guys that milks regulary and I

@@xMarf I have to disagree with you, every cow I have milked at several different farms that feed in the parlor poop a lot. These are top notch farms, there is no yelling, the cows are peaceful and comfortable as they spent a lot of time in the field.

@Rene' Loper @Martin Nanning is correct with what he says that when cows are stressed they will poop more because on my families farm when the hired hands milk they generally have to push more manure to the end of the parlor were as when me or my brother milk we barely have to push any manure because we just let the cows walk into the parlor by themselves whereas the hired hands whistle and yell resulting in more poop

I grew up on a small dairy farm in north east Iowa back in the 1960 to the mid 80’s. We milked around 40 to 50 cows. We had a pipe Line but didn’t milk in a parlor. We went to them LOL. I knew families who had big herds and miked in parlors. Yes getting things ready before milking and clean up after milking takes a while plus feeding. Then watching you I remembered how much water a dairy farm has to use. It took me back. Even tho things has changed in agriculture/dairy farming. That more things stay the same. Still hard work. Cows still have to be milked every day 365 days a year 😀👍🏻🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄

I am a daughter from dairy farm from the 70’s &80’s my daily chores began before the school bus came in the mornings and yes it was early Then after school the evening feeding and milking helping in every aspect of milking. From my days back then to this video lots of changes but I wouldn’t change it for the world! I fondly remember calling the cows in the prep work in the parlor, bottle / bucket feeding calves, and hand throwing silage down the silo to a wheelbarrow for heifers All before school and evenings too ! Hard work but lessons learned carried my sister and 4 brothers through to our now adult life. Those days can never be replaced and most people I know only know how milk comes from the dairy case at the local grocery or big box stores. My parents retired in the mid 80s and went onto their next career which continued hard work my father has since passed and I now raise beef cattle The same Hardwork just in a different setting kudos to the young man doing this video love the boots and the shorts that’s how I live. Continued success to you there is nothing better than the satisfaction of doing a job well and the memories you have made!

I agree with Mark. Start a channel about pig farming in Germany. I've been learning German for about 8 months now, and would love to watch it to see how much I'm learning!

I've been watching a few milking videos. I have to tell you that yours is the absolute cleanest I have seen. You obviously take pride in your work and respect the health of your cows. Doing an absolute wonderful job, you could teach a few old timers a thing or two.

That awesome how you milk the special need cows. We used a bucket and suction line off the main line to milk.

I milk 600 cows in New Zealand myself and 2 full time staff. It amazing me how many people it takes to milk cows in other countries. Completely different systems but love the videos.

As someone who has always had a glass of milk for a snack, I really appreciate learning how milk is produced on a farm!! I am lactose intolerant but still love my milk so thank you science and the power of enzymes! 🤣🥰

PS I'm so glad you do your channel. We as people here in our good old USA take for granted going to the grocery store picking up milk, butter, bread etc... Wow HARD WORK.

Eric, thank you for showing the after processes with the milk. I think I am one that has requested that. With observation from my uncle several years ago, it is amazing to see the advancement in the process.

Ive hauled milk on farm pickup several years ago. There are farms you could eat off the floor. There are others not so great. Its good to see someone taking pride in dairy farming. In my area most have gone to a direct load system. Its sad to see the small farmer is going away. For those that have never seen it a good indication of how a dairy farm is run is by how dirty the sock filter is. That is a clean filter. Good job.
