Hi Alyn! Great video - great channel! Since you were in the same place as me, to take beautiful pictures :-) Fantastic location at the Drei Zinnen. For me, unfortunately, the Milky Way was not to be seen this night :-( For time-lapse it was enough. I like to let a subscription here.LG Jörg

This is very inspiring Alyn! I´m going to go on a trip to the dolomites with two others and to get the insigths from your vlog is helping me out a lot! I just bought handwarmers from part one to keep my smartphone warm when flying the drone on top of the mountains, because the battery would die after 5 minutes during minus degrees :D And thnks for the tip with the book, I bought it as well to get even more insights :) Can´t wait to get my first stro shots with the a7iii and the samyang 35mm f1.4. I´d love to get some feedback from you when our trip has ended and the vlog is out :)

Alyn! Awesome video! I am heading to the Dolomites in September, and was wondering what the best way to find out the best time of night to capture the milky way. You seemed to know exactly when a space station was flying over, and the best time to capture the Milky Way. How can I go about doing that?
@PhilJonesIII4 жыл бұрын
You probably already know by now but, here goes. For the moon and sun, there is a web-based ap called "The photographers' Ephemeris." So, if you want to know when the next full Sun/Moon appears between to peaks, it will tell you. It's also free. Another useful app is "Stellarium" which is more for astronomy but can be used to determine where things have been, are, and are going to be according to your location. Also free. There are any number of phone-apps but I'm one of those Luddites that doesn't have a phone that is more than a phone.

@@PhilJonesIII , probably 15th to 19th sep is the best window, 17th being the New moon day. You will get good dark sky. Milky way visibility is in early hrs of the evening, may be from 7 to 11pm. One of the useful mobile App for all the above use, is Photopills, paid App, about $10,. Really worth it.

What a resolution to that part 1 cliffhanger...mind you, the girls showed some dogged determination doing that steep climb mostly in darkness just so they could meet up with you at the puddle. You'd better keep in touch with them...'m just sayin'... I felt for you with the gas canister. Similar experiences made me ditch gas camping cookers. Although it's hard to beat gas cookers on size, weight and sheer compactness, I do prefer these days the BioLite campstove (www.bioliteenergy.com/products/campstove-2). Ohh, and great shots of course but that surely goes without saying.

Also in the French Alps. Put the tent up after dark, take it down before light. Or, just get a very good quality sleeping bag and enjoy the stars.
