Kenji, not sure if you know this. Around 45:00 ish, you mentioned you can just let chapter 3 of bathsong resolve, you could have kept the bathsong and still got the chapter 3 ability. Saga gets sacrificed when it has equal or more chapter counters than it has chapters and this is a state based effect. However, the exception here is that it doesn't take place until AFTER it's own chapter trigger has resolved. So with chapter 3 on the stack, you can remove a chapter counter from the saga, once the effect resolves, it will check to see if the saga has equal or more counter than it has chapters, which it will not, this will allow you to reuse chapter 3 every turn. Then next turn you can remove a counter during your upkeep if you wish to trigger chapter 2 again, thus keep the saga looping forever. This is similar to a play commonly made in modern between Urza's saga and hex parasite.
@MatthewStonebraker Жыл бұрын
You can't loop forever unless you have two Goldberries. Goldberry specifically says you can only remove counters that she doesn't already have on her. So at best, you can remove a saga counter one turn, then the next turn tap her to put that counter on some other permanent, then the following turn remove another saga counter.
@CliffWalrus Жыл бұрын
@MatthewStonebraker how would 2 goldberries change the situation? As I understand it you would end up with lore counters on both of them and still need targets to move them to
@jerrygao6986 Жыл бұрын
@@MatthewStonebraker thanks. I guess i didnt finish reading the card
@MatthewStonebraker Жыл бұрын
@@CliffWalrus Move them onto lands. You need two, to alternate turns removing from the saga. Unfortunately, there's no make-nonlegendary-copy effect in LTR, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the combo in a future cube.

Took my first 7-0 run ever on Arena with 3x Surrounded by Orcs, 2x Pelargir Survivor, and Mouth of Sauron. Decks clear out really fast when you're milling 7, 10, then 13 cards. Was pretty lucky to dodge a lot of removal of my Army tokens too

At 22:41 you could’ve taken their army and then succed all the counters off with Goldberry so they wouldn’t get it back

I think my third Lotr draft was a quick draft and I ended up going dimir mill. I went 6-2; mill is very real, albeit narrow, and amassing with protection is tough, but in this format it’s definitely possible. Amazing video once again, king numnum.
@crushedscouter9522 Жыл бұрын
lol it's definitely not "very real" or it would be getting played. it's generally just bad
@epicurus2163 Жыл бұрын
A deck can be "very real" and still be bad. You can win with it, so I'd say it qualifies. Something that's not "very real" would be literally unplayable, and mill is at least barely playable.
@crushedscouter9522 Жыл бұрын
@@epicurus2163 no. "very real" means it's a consistently viable strategy. If it's bad or requires the stars to align, it's not a real deck.
@epicurus2163 Жыл бұрын
@@crushedscouter9522 I mean, if you decide that you want to define it that way then go off. I was more making a point that "bad" and "good" are divorced from "real" and "not real".

Mill actually _is_ viable. Went 7-2 with a mill deck the other night. UR with a single Gandalf's Sanction and a splash of black for Call of the Ring. 2x Surrounded by Orcs and 3x Treason of Isengard. Lots of amass, biggest mill from a single SbO was 12 cards. I thought it was a crap-tier deck after drafting -- took P1P1 Gandalf's Sanction and forced UR then never got any real goodies for UR and almost no removal other than 1 bounce spell and 5x Glorious Gale. Was surprised, but yeah, seems mill is actually viable.

Is that 9U/8B land split correct? It just seems wrong given we are far more blue than black (17:7). I would have bumped it to 10/7. Thoughts? edit: PS - posting this before watching to avoid results oriented thinking

I'm not sure about that, but if I were playing this deck I'd probably go 10/7 considering there's no double black yeah.

It feels weird how little I see U/B played given how strong it is. While I agree U/R is the strongest color pairing in the set, I think B supports the most archetypes, as you can see B/W and B/R running around constantly, B is probably also the best support color for G outside the food deck. B just has so many good commons, basically none of them are unplayable. I'm guessing it's because its best cards overlap too much with U/R. Most of the U/B payoffs are really mediocre (like Surrounded by Orcs), or work really easily as a splash in U/R (Mouth of Sauron off Hall, Ringsight off Pelegrir Survivor, etc.) Plus the commons tend to be good in U/R or just B/X, think Claim the Precious, Deceive the Messenger, Lorien Revealed, Pelegrir Survivor. Compare that to B/R and U/R, where sure a couple key cards like Grishnak or Smite overlap, but for the most part one wants its Pelegrir Survivors and the other wants its orcs. Basically to play U/B well you play the best cards in their color and completely ignore the intended amass mechanic build around. The first deck I built in this format was U/B tempt w/ Gandalf, Friend of the Shire, and I won the tournament, so the color pairing holds a place in my heart even if the times you end up going it are weirdly niche.
