The thing with these kits is the MPC kit you are showing is old, back then in the late 70's when produced it was state of the art. Now days with 3D modeling, scanning etc the kits are so much nicer. What I like about even the older kits is the history of them. Build them, display them and you can have on your shelf a wonderful showing of what is arguably the most famous and coveted ship in Science Fiction. Great video also....

Nice. I am in Japan so have easy access to the Bandai stuff. I just did the 1/144 after the 1/350 for practice and it was great fun. I can't quite justify the 1/72 yet, so I am probably going to get an AMC one to do a dry-run and get my paint technique down.

Bandai 1:144 kit. 3 versions, 1 for each of the sequel releases. No “original trilogy version”, but each version comes with all the parts that came with the previous version(s), so the Rise of Skywalker version has the round AND rectangular dish, plus figures from all 3 versions and corrected mandible sidewall parts that the Last Jedi version first included.

I had I believe an MPC kit that had a light up feature back in the 80's. I built and and loved it until a friend stepped on it. :-( Then there was a kit that had a opening for the main cargo area from the 90's that I almost bought until I realized it was incorrect as the "inside area" crowded into the gun turret area and just looked bad.

It’s been a long time since I looked at it, I will have to again
@RealDaveWinter Жыл бұрын
Having built many falcons, including a full sized 32" replica, the "mandible inaccuracies" just aren't. One dude on the internet claimed they were wrong and if it's on the internet it must be true. The reality is that any inaccuracies with the mandibles are insignificant and imperceptible. It's still a better kit than the Bandai one, which has everything finished for you out of the box.
@kokkari37 Жыл бұрын
@@RealDaveWinter what? 😂 The jaw box has no taper therefore the mandibles are angled incorrectly. “One guy said it”? It’s well known. I’ve built the fine molds falcon and couldn’t stand looking at it and couldn’t sell it fast enough. I don’t know what building a 32” falcon has to do with anything as I’ve built one also. If you feel the perfect grade Bandai is not as accurate as the fine molds you have disqualified yourself from this conversation and don’t know what you are talking about because they are modeled after two different studio models. The Bandai is almost completely accurate to the 5ft model and the fine molds is a nice try of the 32” model. Case closed!😂
@RealDaveWinter Жыл бұрын
@@kokkari37 that sounds like a personal problem. It’s only a ‘known problem’ because one guy said it on the internet. And yes, I know they are two different studio models. Nobody said the Bandai kit was in accurate, I said it’s half built for you. It builds up like a toy. You’re clearly an assembler and not a modeller. So you’ve disqualified yourself from the conversation.
@kokkari37 Жыл бұрын
@@RealDaveWinter “personal problem” hmmm maybe you should internalize that comment. The irony!🤣 You actually may not be a modeler if you can’t see the problems. Anyone who is can clearly see it. Sounds like you like lots of parts. Are you on the spectrum? If so, I’ll leave you alone.

Beautiful job comparing the Falcons. Urgent question: I recently purchased the FineMolds 1/72 Falcon online- but the scammers who sold it did not include a the bottom half of the Falcon! ( They gave me duplicate top halves instead.) Niw I know why it was so cheap ($125) Wondering (hoping) I can do some surgery and use the MPC bottom half and graft / sculpt/ merge it onto the FineMolds top half. Possible?!

Very cool video! I just came across the Rise of Skywalker version at the store and almost got it on sale. It looks like a remake of the smaller Bandai kit here from Force Awakens. I will always prefer the Fine Molds Falcon over the Bandai PG one. First, it's important to note (and I don't think you did) is that the two kits are based off of two different filming models. The Fine Molds is based off the 32" filming model, the Bandai is based off the larger 64" filming model. But the thing that irks me most about the Bandia kit is that most of the details are molded into the hull for you already. A kit based off the 64" filming model should have 1200 parts, but it has far fewer than the Fine Molds one. Given how everything is pretty much done for you out of the box, the Bandai kit just doesn't justify the cost.

The sequel trilogy falcon has 5 landing gears instead of 3, and has a square radar dish instead of a round one. As for the Bandai 1/72 scale PG Falcon, the notable differences between the standard and the LED version is that the standard uses a blue thruster beam but no LED unit. The LED version on the other hand, uses a white beam to accurately replicate how the falcon appeared in 1977. Little know trivia about the making of the millennium falcon is that the prop model used in film was made up of a bunch of random spare model kit parts. When Bandai wanted to study the actual 3ft prop to make their 1/72 scale Perfect Grade model, they had the prop scanned. Upon scanning the prop Bandai discover pieces of the falcon used model kit pieces from other bandai kits from the 70s. Certain pieces matching with their library of model kits allowed to to manufacture their 1/72 PG kit as the most screen accurate model kit up to date.

I have the DeAgostini, FineMolds and Bandai. Even though they are different versions of the M-Falcon, looking at the common bits like laser hits, the Bandai actually has the most detail. DeAgo and Fine Molds are Empire and Bandai is NewHope. Other than the number of legs, there are quite a few differences in the greeble details between Empire and NewHope as well.
