I was bitten four times at once by a Black Widow. Symptoms are similar to a heart attack. I had trouble breathing, chest pain, nausea, sweating. When I made it to the Emergency Room I had a fever well over 105°. Every muscle in my body was screaming in agony, my tummy was in severe pain. I was given vial after vial of antivenom. I spent months in the hospital due to being paralyzed. I couldn't even breathe on my own. After months of intense therapy very slowly the feeling started returning. I still have issues with side effects. When I have a fever my legs suffer excruciating pain. And convulsions.

That's pretty hectic what you say that happend to you. I did extremally lot of work with spiders with publications included and never heared, nor seen such a case. In the first place, most people(75%) bitten by L. mactans and other highly venomous Latrodectus species (most of them are actually not that harmful) do not get the sympthoms you mention, called latrodectism, so the bite with envenomation ended up with local pain, however, if you will suffer from latrodectism and get an antivenom, all cases I studied and I studied pretty much everything documented, do not ever go above 10 days. When it comes to not getting antivenom treatment, this can either end up with dying(still extremally rare) or with latrodectism elongeted up to weeks, but not months. Your case is super extraordinary. Any chance thst you got some medical documentation of it?
@summerrainsong7506

@@poower7 yes that's true, I had severe complications as well. The fact antivenom had to be flown in did not help. I was bitten on the upper chest while cleaning up Tornado Debris. I thought I had been stung at first. But it didn't take long to realize something much worse had happened. Trouble breathing, intense chest pain, sweating, nausea, by the time I got to the hospital a fever over 105. Doctors trying to figure out what happened. Blood work was done a toxicologist consulted and finally told it was a Black widow. 4 bites. So then antivenom had to be flown in. A serious infection requiring surgery drain tube and eventually skin grafts. But it was being paralyzed and life support that was so traumatic.

Great documentary young man, you have presented your video well. My only point that I disagree is stepping on a stone fish it's my understanding that You have a good chance of dying if you don't get antivenom in time. You made it like a mild bee sting. However this is a great show and filmed it in a gorgeous setting. Wish I was there with fishing equipment..

I think the.only way to do that is have what you share with us…total respect for the animals. In the U.S. we have some pretty venomous animals too. Their everywhere and just as deadly. I sure hope you go that satellite locator beacon/phone I told ya to get :P. You can get PLB messengers for as little as $220 and $15/mo, which will use GPS location and satellite communication to get your message back to the aussie rescue coordination center - you can also send basic messages like what's wrong, and all that stuff, and talk with the medical teams. So if you do a lot of bushwalking, I 100% recommend getting one. (EBIRBs are mostly for marine, PLBs aren't technically emergency beacons, but they're the next best thing, and then you have the normal sat phones which cost a bit more to run but allows you to actually talk to people with voice).

Miller, just a thought, but have you ever met Robert Irwin, Steve's son, who apparently is following in his father's footsteps as you would seem to like to do as well? Robert was, I think, only two or three when his father passed in 2006 which would seem to make him just about your age as well. Perhaps you might reach out to him and compare notes; possibly even collaborating on some future projects while becoming friends in the process. It would seem a natural fit! All the best to you, young man...and PLEASE be very careful with your naturalist career!

Um, I've been bitten by red backs like 4 times in my life most recently at work while lifting a plant into a customers car I stuck my finger under the lip of the pot and felt a sting and it doesn't barely hurt at all and I didn't feel sick or anything afterwards it just feels like an insignificant sting, then a weird numb sensation then nothing. Talk about overrated.

Do you save any of your outtakes?! And could you post on Patreon or wherever any "lost" footage saved... maybe on Patreon or Ko-fi web sites? I've read OZ is only getting more punitive along with the EU and Brazil when it comes to free speech/expression than ever. covid was just a test. I know you never get political on your channel.

When we rented a place in St Ives, Northern Sydney, a few years ago we started seeing Sydney Funnel Webs frequently. Called a Spiderman and sent him through the pics of what we found in the kitchen etc. His response was honest and blunt, he said "mate I could take a couple hundred $ from you and spray outside etc, but no point, they will come back. Just don't put your hand in a dark hole or put shoes on you've left outside without checking first. Also they are great at controlling pests and no-one has died from them since 1996." Thanks sir now i have OCD checking everything lol.

Let’s put the whole “everything in Australia is trying to kill you”, especially spiders and snakes, into perspective. Some Australian facts: * On average, there are only TWO deaths per year from snake bite (from a population of almost 27 million). * In the last 40+ years there has only been ONE recorded death in Australia from spider bite. *If you are unlucky enough to get bit, anti venom is very widely available. Meanwhile in the USA: * There were approx 640 mass shootings in the USA in 2023 (mass shooting = 4 or more people shot, either killed or wounded). *That works out to approx 1.75 mass shootings per day. * There were 40,000+ firearm related death in the USA in 2023. * In the USA there are MORE firearms than people! Being an Aussie, guess which country I’m going to be safer in? And it ain’t Merica!! Cheers,

I always get creeped out about Spiders. But I love to see them. I went to Australia years ago with my husband. We first spent a few days in Sydney then we went to Cape Tribulation for about 4 Gladys I believe. Then we went to Cairns. We went out on a catamaran to Michales Cay. I sat there in the sand while my husband snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef. I had bird poo all over me. We left my wheelchair on the boat. Then we went on a submarine. It was tricky for us getting in it but we did. Was really good cool! Anyways did lots more things. But I was never scared of spiders or snakes. I held a baby snake that was handed to me to hold. At Cape Tribulation in the building where we had dinner. You look up at the ceiling there were huge spider balls everywhere. I loved seeing everything. At one place a fox bat climbed on me. It was a kind of a zoo in Cairns. He was really cute. I had forgotten how big the funnel spider is. Really cool to look at. Look forward to your next video. 😊😊😊

One of the things I love about this channel is variety. It would be easy to focus on the bigger, more extreme animals, like sharks and crocs. Miller is fascinated by all aspects of life and this often creates situations where he's up close and really personal with a lot of different species. He is showing and teaching us about animals we typically wouldn't know much about, large and small, and all for our viewing pleasure. Great channel.

I can't believe KZbin is only just now recommending this channel to me. Firstly, it's nature, which is a massive passion of mine. Secondly, it's Aussie, which I am. Thirdly, this channel is my kind of vibe. Bloody good video mate, definitely gonna check out more from you!

as I reflect on your incredible journey on KZbin, it's truly remarkable to see how far you've come since those early days. Your dedication to exploration and adventure has not only entertained but also inspired countless viewers, including myself. I vividly remember watching your videos since middle school, and now, as I'm on the cusp of entering college, I'm in awe of the growth and maturity you've displayed over the years. Your passion for wildlife and your fearless pursuit of the extraordinary has left a lasting impression on me, and I find myself living vicariously through your adventures. Your milestone of hitting 1 million subscribers four years ago is a testament to the impact you've had on so many lives. It's hard to believe how quickly time has flown by, but I'm incredibly proud to have been a part of your journey for almost half a decade. Here's to many more years of excitement, discovery, and inspiration! 🎉

I bet you would get yourself in the Guinness book of world records for the most times “Australia” is said in 1 minute!! I love your adventures and I wish I loved my country like you do yours, you do in fact have the most amazing country on earth!!!! However if it wants to sting, bite or eat you alive it lives in your homeland but it is extremely beautiful pretty much everywhere xa

Fangs were red because they were not dry after the molt. That's probably also why a spider stayed in defensive position so long with you touching him without striking a single time. They are programmed that way so the fangs wouldn't break, because that eould be 100% death to this guy.

I personally don't believe the Sydney Funnel Web is the most venomous of the Australian Funnel Webs. Less than one in five bites will result in a severe envenomation, where as the Southern Tree Funnel Web has a severe envenomation rate of three out of four bites. I think A. Robustus are just similar to the redback spider, in that they're just the most commonly encountered by people.

It's a bit of an argument about which spider is the deadliest. Some say it's the Funnel-Web, as others say it's the Brazilian Wandering Spider. Some scientists even say it's the Six-Eyed Sand Spider.

Yes it is complex in how it is decided - very similar to snakes and the differing top 10 - and what you read and where....

I think you may have actually found the owner of that shed skin with the Funnel Web in the video, that's why it has the red fangs, the chitin of the fangs has not hardened properly yet so they are still a light colour, also why it is not super aggressive, could injure itself easily or break/damage it's fangs.

I was told by my first aid instructor about a year ago that if we were bitten by a red back, to not bother calling an ambulance because there's relatively little harm it can do to you; just a small red bump and a bit of pain apparently. I'm curious if others have encountered the same advice?

Don’t need to go anywhere exotic for red backs, they’re everywhere lol. I literally could find 10 outside around my house lol

I live in America so I’m glad we don’t have any of this stuff. Imo the scariest animal here is def the mountain lion. They are so stealthy and I go hiking alot and you always feel in the back of your head one could literally be following me right now and I would never know untill it’s too late.
