“Where did u sleep last night” from this show, nirvana unplugged

Dave said that he had to really keep his drum strokes light by concious effort and was also using drum "Rods", which are bound bunches of thin wooden dowls that can give a much softer sound. Somewhere between sticks and brushes. Dava is also visibly holding back on the arm action to reduce it even more. Very tricky to do for a whole song as the volume tends t keep creeping up as you play. It's actually more difficult to play softly than it is to be loud. It takes real skill to withold power and bring it it when needed

This entire show is great. I like how they were all like "We're not going to play ANY of our hits... let's do covers of songs we like instead" If you haven't seen the performance of Leadbelly's "Where did you sleep last night?" from this show yet you absolutely HAVE to 💔

David Bowie was 19 when he wrote this. Bowie also did a version with Lulu where he sang backing vocals and played the sax. The B side of that record was another Bowie song called Watch That Man.

Yeah there was always sadness in his voice even though he didn't write it the part of the song where it said I must have died alone was kind of chilling.

Definitely listen to the original too. This cover did stay very true to the original. I love both versions.

Exactly 30 years ago, December, Christmas time 1993, this show hit MTV rotation so hard…it was recorded in early November 1993, & i don’t remember when editing & post production on all the footage was completely put together & when it first aired but I know it was in HEAVY rotation on Mtv (the entire show, or every song’s video was played again & again that December), ….it was like a new nirvana album had dropped, so many new songs….it was my senior year of high school & partly because of this show, that era is burned into my brain forever…this really was the peak of the 90’s…i dont care what anyone says, but as far as rock was concerned, Kurt would be dead 4 months later & it was all downhill from here….but this…..his show is a historical gem of a moment frozen in time in all its glory, people who were lukewarm on nirvana saw the light this show was so iconic, thee zeitgeist, like the 90’s version of the summer of 1967……again, the peak…..every single song from this show is reaction worthy, epic af…i cant remember if you’ve done “where did u sleep last night”, Kurt’s genius swan song, I’ll have to check. Anyway, great reaction as always.

This is a great, GREAT cover and I love Nirvana*, but credit for the riff, bass and genius melody is Bowie and his original crew. * In fact I listened to Nirvana Unplugged for probably the 150th time yesterday…

Nirvana did a great job on this song, Kurt really made it his own! But you should also check out David Bowie's original, both amazing versions, it's just a great song!
@sumonjamal165311 ай бұрын
Krist Novoselic (bass) of Nirvana never got enough credit for his talent in the band... After Nirvana ended in 1994, he did attempt musical projects like Sweet 75... Eyes Adrift ... Neither made a commercial impact, unfortunately. Novoselic did play bass & Accordion on a Foo Fighters album ('Wasting light' in 2011) on the track "I should have known"... Novoselic and Dave Grohl have stayed friends since Nirvana's end and the 2nd guitarist Pat Smear (who did the 'MTV Unplugged' set) rejoined Foo Fighters around 2007 (Smear did the first tour in 1995 and the 2nd album 'The color and the shape' in 1997 before leaving the band). David Bowie was very happy & flattered that this obscure song he had written became a classic covered by Nirvana.

“I was simply blown away when I found that Kurt Cobain liked my work, and have always wanted to talk to him about his reasons for covering ‘The Man Who Sold the World’” and that it was a good straight forward rendition and sounded somehow very honest. It would have been nice to have worked with him, but just talking with him would have been real cool.” -David Bowie P.S. Kurt does actually technically screw up the solo by one fret as he prophesized, but it just sounds cooler.

Nirvana underrated? Alice In Chains is underrated, in fact having been a teenager of this time, Nirvana was probably my least favorite.

I'm a fan of Nirvana and this song and performance are up there with my favorites, but it is too common place for reactors. Millie needs to be bold and break some new ground on her own and explore some of the music that is still undiscovered by reactors. Just a few suggestions from the late 80s to early 90s era that I think Millie would like... 10,000 Maniacs (Natalie Merchant), many songs to choose from, Blues Traveler, many songs to choose from, Mazzy Star, kinda a one hit wonder, Fade Into You...

Got to do a Tina S reaction. Listen to her rendition of Moonlight Sonata -- blows everyone away. She has millions of views. She's beyond amazing. Also, no one does a reaction to Lisa Gerard of Dead Can Dance. I don't know why. Try ["Lisa Gerrard & Pieter Bourke "Sacrifice"]. You will not believe what you hear.
