Congratulations on your new baby. I laughed when you said things are more stable now. You are going to experience new levels of love, of wonder, of fear, and of uncertainty. That is parenting. Thanks for the tips and for explaining your rationale for your milling process. The Hammer looks like an awesome machine. It is far beyond my needs, my space, and my budget.
@AlabamaWoodworker6 жыл бұрын
The Hammer was also far beyond my needs and budget several years ago. Things lined up for me and I'm now able to afford the Hammer, but I was happy with my previous setup as well.

As someone who just bought rough lumber for the first time this video was very helpful! Learned a lot. Especially the part about planing both sides equal amounts for moisture concerns. Thanks!

First time I've come across you and I gotta say - WOW. SO much information. So much wisdom. I'm sure after many hours and many lost boards/projects I could have arrived at the same info, but it's awesome to hear/learn it from someone who's been there. For instance, NEVER would have thought to plain the other side to induce symmetrical moisture exposure/reduce chance of future bowing. That kind of info was EVERYWHERE in this vid. Even though this vid is a few months old, I've subbed and can't wait to watch more.

Nice. I’ve been following you on Instagram for a short while now and didn’t realise you had a KZbin channel. Hi Huy, congratulations to you and your family on the arrival of your baby girl and thank you for the awesome video. Just a quick question regarding the table saw, where can I get that fence and the two clamps(?) on top? I have a very old table saw that I recently acquired but too afraid to use ( kickback) cos it didn’t come with any guard, riving knife or fences. I’m trying to get a riving knife custom made but at least with the fence like yours I feel like it’ll be a lot safer to use. TIA and g’day from down under btw.
@AlabamaWoodworker5 жыл бұрын
I'm using the JessEm Clear Cut Stock Guides. They are very effective at keeping material tight to the fence and preventing kick-back. They are a great aftermarket safety investment.

The 4th side can also be done by a planer--assuming it is not too wide for the planer. You also might have to use one pass of the jointer after using the table saw to "clean things up".

I was about to skip the video, thinking I knew everything there is to know about milling. I was wrong! I always jointer face and side first then go to the planer but your strategy make sense. I am not sure how much of a difference it makes to alternate planing sides, I never did, but it makes sense too and I may just start to do it!
