he Millington Trojans have enjoyed success throughout the 2024 season using a powerful offensive line anchored by senior standout Jackson Ford and the power running of Rory Rush.
By the time the first half concluded Thursday night on the turf of Mooney Boswell Field, the scoreboard read 27-7 in favor of the visiting Brighton Cardinals. And the combo of Rush and Ford were on the sideline with injuries.
The Cardinals kept playing with a purpose dominating offensively, defensively and on special teams to prevail 40-15 over the Trojans.
“This is the first time in two years we’ve felt we got all three phases of the game out of the kids,” Brighton Head Coach Keith Setler said. “In every game last year or this year, it’s been that one aspect we hadn’t been clicking on all cylinders. Tonight we came out clicking on offense.”
The Trojans (6-3) were operating well on offense during the opening drive guided by sophomore quarterback Seth Ervin. A few handoffs to Rush, blazed a path inside the Red Zone for Millington.
Then Rush suffered a lower body injury and left the game for good. Marcus Hood had the honors of running in the 1-yard touchdown. Tre’ Wampler added the extra point to give the Trojans a 7-0 advantage with 7:05 left in the period.
Brighton (4-5) quickly answered when senior signal caller Brenden Killinger broke loose for a 33-yard TD to deadlock the game at 7-7 with 6 minutes and 46 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
