'Million Dollar Traders' was a British reality television series created by a hedge fund manager Lex van Dam (milliondollartraders.com)
Eight ordinary people are given a million dollars, a fortnight of intensive training and two months to run their own hedge fund. Can they make a killing?
The experiment reveals the inner workings of a City trading floor. The money is supplied by hedge fund manager Lex van Dam: he wants to see if ordinary people can beat the professionals, and he expects a return on his investment too. Yet no-one foresees the financial crisis that lies ahead.
The traders were selected in spring 2008, before the US credit crisis gathered pace. The successful candidates were chosen, trained and dispatched to their specially created trading room in the heart of the Square Mile. Among them are an environmentalist, a soldier, a boxing promoter, an entrepreneur, a retired IT consultant, a vet, a student and a shopkeeper.
As the novices learn the dark art of trading stocks and shares, the financial markets start to buckle. Making money takes second place to basic survival as the brutal realities of global economics take their toll on the traders. How do they cope? Will they secure themselves a bonus, or walk away with nothing?

Starting out with a with a professional that knows the ropes of the choppy but profitable market is the best way to achieve getting a well structured portfolio. That’s why I have been working with Betty Sue Blanchard ‘ and that doesn’t make me daft because in financial dealings one have to be prudent. Most traders enter exit with a quick 10% profit which is not bad in a general opinion but why not aim higher, it doesn’t necessarily mean to be greedy.

You can't get stock shows on TV in the USA. You can only get stock shows on KZbin and Vimeo. With Smart TV's, TV's with HDMI connections, laptops which connect to TV's and large screen computer monitors, you don't even need TV anymore. *It's mostly **_crap_** unless you like seeing the umpteenth rerun of Cops or The Simpsons.* I cut the TV cord in July 2017 and I don't miss it at all. Indeed. It wasn't something I ever looked at before or even pictured being interesting; how fun can watching tickers be? Plus throughout my teens and 20's there was a certain barrier to entry, and I'm only 31, but now with non commission apps and much better software that barrier is reduced even more. Especially if it's just a hobby. Now I'm pretty much addicted. I only play with what amounts to pocket change for people really in the game - £500 - but I'm up 30% since I started mid January this year. Since I've not invested much it's not really about the money, but more the addiction of how news, recent tech developments, and so on all have an impact on the market, and the feeling of getting something right, entirely based on constant flowing information is a great feeling.

Totally enjoyed watching this couple of years back. I have said forever how I seriously wish that our public school education departments in the USA would mandate that students must have at least one semester credit of Basic Personal Finance and Economics in order to be illegible to graduate High School and receive their High School Diploma. I strongly believe that it would help by reduce the number of personal bankruptcies we see filed every year that occurs from poor money management, spending and finance choices. Students would leave high school better prepared to succeed financially by their having learned about Economic and Finance. Just my feeling on this.

I just wanted to state there is nothing immoral about shortselling, it’s actually not only ethical but necessary for market efficiency and balance. It creates an incentive for companies to behave themselves because there are people looking at them scanning for real mistakes. companies that shouldn’t be there are either prevented or taken out by that. Shortselling is heroic in a way 🙃😂😄.

So I love the idea of this and I want to learn what these students learned. The video said they had 2 wees to learn how to trade. I do not see 2 weeks worth of material on the online site. I think a good idea would be to setup an in person 2 week course and allow students to attend the same training. maybe make it a 6 week course except they are using paper money. You can charge more and include the videos from the online site as a bonus.

An easy way to multiply 32 by 32 is: suppose you have to multiply two numbers of two digits ab*cd, the first step is a*c=e*100, then b*d=f, then you multiply a*d=g*10 and b*c=h*10 after that you add everything up, in this case 32*32, so applying the method will give us: 3*3=900; 2*2=4; 3*2=60; 2*3=60; 900+4+60+60=1024. Not that big of a deal once you know the algorithm

Or just 30*30=900+30*2=960+2*32=1024 easily solved in less than 20 seconds with just your head. Winging it with "approximately 1000" would be ok as well but the guy who thinks 32*32 is nearly 10000...his brain really isn`t functioning

Very true, people downplay advisors role, until burnt by their mistakes. I remember just after my layoff early 2020 amidst covid outbreak, I needed to stay afloat, hence researched for license advisors. Thankfully, I came across someone of practical knowledge, and decades of experience, my stagnant reserve of $225K has yielded nearly $1m after subsequent investments so far
