For those who don't know, SLAVERY still exists today just not in the same form that it used to be in. For example slavery goes on in Dubai where skyscrapers are built by poor people from foreign countries who are promised a certain pension and then upon arriving in Dubai they get their passports immediately taken away and are barely, if ever paid.

The homeless where I lived tend to come in one week and disappear another, A few years ago there was a police investigation done in my previous neighborhood where they were trying to link some disappearances to a dump cite where a total of seven mutilated body's were found as well as several more in various dismembered remains of limbs. No-one was ever reported missing, it was presumably a serial killer who was targeting homeless men, but was never identified. I remember it reached a point where in our zone their was a federal curfew imput for a few months before the investigations stopped, from what I've heard though it's still happening, the bodies turn up monthly, but no one is reporting them missing.

NO ONE ON THIS YARD WAS KEPT AGAINST THERE WILL As one of the residents of drinsey nook and a none travelling person I can confirm there was no slavery. I didn't work with the Rooneys as I ran my own business however knew a few of the lads who did. Most where ex junkie/alcohol dependant though not all. These folks were given a job a roof over there head and somewhere to feel safe. Something that out government was unable to provide them. Patrick who ran the driveway company was a very decent man who helped myself and my wife out one winter when when we had nothing but our caravan and and a tenner to my name. We were given somewhere to park up free of charge for a month or so until we we got back on feet. I was offered work canvassing for Patrick however declined this kind offer and persevered with my own business. One of Patrick children even used to help us loading and unloading our own van for the markets at the weekends something we never paid him for. Perhaps I'm guilty of holding someone as a slave now aswell.....

Fun fact: most people that owned slaves, back when it was legal in the U.S., were not wealthy. It's a perpetuated stereotype that African slaves lived on lavish, impressive estates, working all day while their European masters did little. The reality was, most slave holders were poor farmers, who worked right along side the slaves. Most could not afford more then a couple people to buy, like they would horses or hogs. This is why slavery was such an economic insecurity among slave holders in the South. It's wasn't a madder of mortality for many of them. It was more like, if my property becomes illegal, how am I gonna earn a living, how am I gonna feed my family? Not saying it was right, but it's important to have empathy for all sides.... And yes, I mean even Hitler. Even he deserves it; he had an extremely hard time of it before he became an Enemy of Humanity.

Crazy idea: offer homeless people a job at a factory or something on the outskirts of town where they can stay in a dorm with access to showers, get three hot meals a day, and receive a small stipend with which they can do as they wish (e.g. save it). Promotions based on seniority and performance are given along with some benefits like having their own room, increased stipend, etc. Profits from the business are reinvested in the business as well as education for the workers. That way, the rate of homelessness is reduced as well as the perceived homeless blight within the city. This in turn reduces public demand for anti-homeless policies, making life easier for the remaining homeless population. Everyone wins

If anyone is wondering about how there are more slaves now than the 1800s (Which were not colonial times, at least in the commonly used definition. You tried, Joe), it's because we have more people in general. As a percentage of the population, slavery was much larger in the 1800s. Even after American slavery was abolished, colonial slavery in Africa was just beginning. Sorry if this sounded a little rude or condescending. I just want to make sure no one was misled.
