RE: spouse not being a financial mutant. I have written a document, called “In Case Of Emergency” which is stored in our lock box. This document lists every account, every regular bill, every insurance policy, and where to find the login information. I write what each account is for and how it should be used. I wrote what next steps my wife should take if I am gone and what resources she should seek. I update this every year as a part of my year end net worth exercise and I review it with her. I highly recommend it! It brings us a lot of peace!

Great advice! My wife and I maintain a similar set of documentation in both print and digital formats. It's not for her because she's just as much a financial mutant as me. It's for our immediate family and/or next of kin in the event something happens to both of us.
