Hi Graham! I’m so excited and honored to see you react to my episode! You’ve been a huge inspiration in my family’s financial journey. Since the recording of this I’ve established a 1K emergency fund and may be very close to surpassing my six figure income goal already (fingers crossed the opportunity works out!). For anyone that’s interested I started a KZbin channel and am planning to document our journey from here on out!

I'm a Filipina. Wastes my 20s and 30s helping my family. Why it's a waste??? Because I don't have any savings and parents are not even appreciative. I paid for my brother for him to finish college. I thought after that I could start saving. And dang my father got sick. Since I don't have savings because I build my parents a house and bought them a car. Now that my father is sick I got a loan to pay for his hospitalization I wish I never grow up in thsi culture. Parents expecting children to help them and not being appreciative because they thought it's my responsibility being the eldest. I love watching grams show because one day I know. I'll be able to save for myself

Going through the same thing right now. I am basically paying off my parents mortgage, utilities, and groceries. I had to move in with them recently as it's almost impossible to find a reasonable rent price or home in Tampa, Fl and so they basically saw this as an opportunity to utilize my entire income 🙃 hoping to save as much as possible during this recession though!

As a Latina, I did help support my mother because she's my mom of course but then she started the "I am your mother so do as I say and don't question me" routine when it came to anything she didn't agree with. So I think she actually resented me giving her money...so for both our sakes I just give her money several times a year instead as a gift. That way I don't resent her for not being grateful and she can't resent me for Lord knows what. 🤨

As a resident of Wyoming myself, I can attest to the fact that health insurance costs are ridiculously high. The problem in Wyoming is that there is no market competition in the healthcare marketplace. It's true that this woman's condition (along with her daughter's) may add to their family's premium costs, but my husband and I pay over $1,000.00 a month for health insurance alone, and neither of us have any medical conditions or take any medication. It's brutal!

That is absurd. I live in Arizona working for the state gov and I only pay about $90 per month for healthcare/dental/vision with a low deductible. When I did have a corporate job, I paid about $360 for a $3000 deductible plan.

And she bashed me saying “I’m privileged” when i used to live off food stamps myself, and her parents were like making a lot more than what i made with three jobs. She also said she shouldn’t have to make sacrifices (ex. 600$ concert tickets, trips, etc) to live comfortably. I did it and now i am ABLE to live and give generously bc i made those sacrifices.

@@phoenixtorres4117 Saving doesn’t take much at all, you don’t have to save thousands a month, it’s what ever you have or what ever you set your goal to be. However, the bulk of her income is going straight to daycare and you can do daily or weekly play dates to socialize your children. Daycare doesn’t love your children and most don’t properly watch the children and are under staffed. She would be better off finding a work from home position in the evening 25 hrs a week or watching another child with her children and make money that way. Additionally, to decrease his taxable income see if his job offers a FSA plan to use for medical bills.

No Graham, most people do not do it right, it's just that some just get lucky! To stay within a budget is not a problem, however, to save money when you have four children and make $30,000 a year in the military is damn near impossible. I am 65 now and live on a fixed income so with proper budgeting my wife and I live comfortably.
